Next Motorhome Rally(s)

after re-reading the other thread, I have compiled this.

Mid-October Fall Rallys
----------------------------
Weekends are 10/5-6, 10/12-13, 10/19-20, 10/26-27
#1 East Coast/Central - in either Cherokee Land Yacht Harbor (OK) or Arkansas
#2 West Coast - proposed for Land Yacht Harbor in Lacey, WA

Annual Spring Motorhome Rallys
----------------------------------------
Southeast
April 4,5, & 6th, 2003 at Top of Georgia
April 2,3,& 4th, 2004 at Mystic Springs.

West Coast
April 4,5, & 6th, 2003 at TBD
April 2,3,& 4th, 2004 at TBD

The farther out we set the dates, the better the attendance will be! Maybe we should set a goal of 5/7 to have dates set.

Comments Please..............

p.s. We welcome ALL Airstream/Argosy products! I'm sure the newer models would get good looks also!

Thank you Fred, for getting us organized! Speaking for myself, I need all the organization I can get.

I will leave the October rally decision to others. It is very difficult for Brett to be away from his company for an entire week. We would need at least that much time for a rally that far from us, so I doubt we could attend.

The Spring rally plans look great, and conveniently close.

Seattle would have the choice of a west coast rally potentially at the Land Yacht Harbor in Lacey, WA or the Oklahoma fall rally.

What is the weather like in Seattle in October and April?

Where are all the west coasters? I saw several say they wanted something on the west coast, I proposed a site, and very little response. Any alternatives to Lacey, WA?

I thought we'd do the fall and spring rallys on the same weekends but different locations. That's just a suggestion.

Talking rallys

I hope we can get a reasonable forecast for who would want to attend a rally- and where- so we can move it if necessary to accomodate those who live closer. For instance if there is very little western interest, we might as well go for Mystic - or Cumberland - or TOG .
If we do get the interest from our western compatriots then we could plan on the Ok or Ark - locations.
4 of the 7 Motorhomes at Mystic were Southeasterners. one mid-west- 2 Texans. I would also like to "convoy" a fewof us if we end up with a way to put that together. That would be quite a sight!

Re: rallys

I plan to pick up our motorhome in Broken Arrow, OK in late May then check out the Cherokee Land Yacht Harbor before we head home. By September we will be un-tethered from our Mission Viejo, CA home so we can plan to be in OK at about any time. If nothing unexpected happens we plan to attend the fall rally.

I have to contact the welding shop and approve the final design of the "Orange Cone and Barrel Killer" Then all that is left to do is weld it on the front of the Argosy!

The sacrifices I make for the rest of you.......

I will have to look at the calendar and see if there is even a remote possibility of taking off the time necessary to go to the proposed rally in OK. I will know more in a few months.

Of course a decision needs to be made as to what weekend it will be held on??

Just talked to the trustee at Cherokee Land Yacht Harbor.
They would welcome a Airstream Motorhome Rally.
(Which would be a first for them)
He said they could accommodate up to 20 Motorhomes, but they would be spread out over 2 loops of the park.
The month of October is wide open at this point.
Then he asked again "and they all would be Airstream Motorhomes, right?"
I am not sure if the park will be suitable for our plans. Hopefully we will get a feedback from Dienst1, after he does the scout trip.
I was hoping to see at least 15-20 MH's at the Cherokee20 rally.
We drove 750 miles to Mystic Springs and enjoyed every minute of it. This rally would not be a quick weekend get away. I am talking about planning your life around it.
Who would at this point consider participating in the biggest Airstream MH rally on the planet?

I will not know about the October rally until September.
I MAY be able to make the TOG spring rally.
I will probably make the 2004 Mystic Springs rally since it's so close to me.
My life revolves around the kids sports.

Don't plan around me! I think it's more important to set dates that please enough and get as many people as possible. My thought is spring and fall events.

It is a little disturbing that Cherokee Land Yacht Harbor can only handle 20 MH's. Maybe they are thinking we need 50amp service. Most, if not all, of the Classic MH's use 30amp service. I think Mystic has a limited number of 50amp sites. (those bright green boxes )

They may not even have 50 amp service. The impression I got, is that the Cherokee LYH is primarily an Airstream community (houses) with accommodations for a few travelers.

for us being in education, we have off in June and July, for 10 weeks. So taking off more than a 3 day weekend in October is not going to happen. Also my priority is the kids school, and other activities.
We are looking forward to another, and hopefully larger rally- but could only do what is reasonable for us to attempt.
Lets keep a fire under it and see how many folks might really show up...
Heading to TOG today for their Spring Rally.

Summer Rally?

Alan,
I totally understand the summer availability issue. The only place in the Southeast that I know would be even remotely cool in the summer might be TOG or Asheville, N.C.? Any suggestions for June, July, August? Stone Mountain, GA? Hershey, PA (kinda expensive)? I'd hate to compete with the International Rally.

I think we can almost rule out Cherokee LYH.

TOG

Just returned from the TOG Georgia spring rally.
Felt like a couple from another planet. There were very few people in the park during the day, a lot of airstreams, but the owners were mostly off on a visit to Helen.
We were warned twice by different people about letting our kids ride their bikes too fast(over 5mph) in the park, in spite of them really doing this only once , and they were not "endangering" anyone. The second warning came with the advice to go read the park by laws posted in the office. A shame as my guys listened to the first warning and did nothing wrong after.
Then when we attempted to walk our little dog over to the nature trail, we were reminded that dogs are not allowed to walk thru the front section of the park, only the back over the bridge.
So my suggestion is if you have kids, and want to do something other than sit and chat, this is not the place to go...nice park for the "older"set. The high pint for me was meeting fellow motorhome owner UncleNeal from Montezuma,Ga who has a 345 and a 310 - which is for sale. His 345 was at TOG.
Sorry but I won't go back there, and might even have to say I would not be a very interested WBCCI member in the future if this is the general atmosphere at the Rallys.

Mis-treatment

There is no excuse for your treatment at TOG. Even the older generation like us won't tolerate that kind of treatment by the Host. We have dogs and wouldn't want to be hassled by that either. We agree that if that kind of thing , especially for children will prevail at WBCCI activities, we won't be going either.

Ditto for me, too - as I have both - a child AND a dog!

There really is no excuse for ill treatment and rudeness - if more of us boycott this type of behaviour by refusing to attend events with people such as these, then perhaps (?!) it will cease to exist . . .

Wishful thinking, I know . . .

Sorry for your experience, Alan.

Unhappy One more thing

I should say, the HOST was generally friendly- it was the other "Badged" folks that were a bit too nervous for us, especially considering the circumstances.
The current President told me he was going to be "blunt", after I made a friendly approach to check out his trailer set up...and he proceeded to let me know that the by laws were posted for me to read at the office...and we needed to protect our elder members..as if we were being obnoxious or something
whew!! And he had a big motorcycle, which he cruised around on, evidently going 5mph in the park I guess.
The members should be very encouraging of kids, in these times when supposedly the WBCCI is starving for new younger members.
We were set for some fun, and unfortunately had none. Next time i will go to UNICOI state park.
Sorry to vent...but it is cathartic..
