How about Crater Lake National Park? I've always wanted to go there. I have a window in mid-July where I can take a few days off. What do y'all think? anyone else want to get together? I'll volunteer to teach a digital photography workshop for anyone who shows up with an Airstream or other tin can trailer.

I would be very interested in this trip. The Mexican theme sounds great!

I was going to say something about the Mexican theme, then forgot. I can cook up a batch of Texas style fajitas to go with the margaritas.

And after checking out the nevis studio web site I think maybe I should be a student at the digital photography workshop I volunteered to teach.

that's funny.
i am glad you are all interested! and with the mexican theme! are there any other suggestions? i just kept seeing the thread on the mid-west rally and was wondering if we had one here.

crater lake national park would be awesome. we have passed nearby (klamath falls)a # of times, but have never had the time to stop.

i am sure there are some great photo opps in crater lake. i do digital, but i am really interested in home-made cameras and alternative printing. i keep technically in-tune, but have decided to go low-tech for my own personal work. it keeps me fresh. we were just talking about updating the website this week since its been a while.

the summer would be good. how long are these events usually? just a weekend or a whole week? we need to get this airstream done before then.

COUNT ME IN !!!

I'd love to get together with some other AIRSTREAMERS!

The weather here in western WA really needs to CHANGE. It started raining in October and it's been forecasted to let up, sometime around MAY !!!

Crater Lake would be a great idea. I went to college in Klamath Falls, and in the four years I was there I never got around to seeing Crater Lake. I have a guide book that shows a couple nice hikes in the area, even a short one on the little island in the middle of the lake!

Does anyone know when the roads to Crater Lake open back up after the thaw? I'm not sure but I think they close them in the winter, or at least some of them.

camping in crater lake

here is the website link to crater lake:
http://www.nps.gov/crla/index.htm

it seems that there is only one campsite for us in the national park, mazama campground. there are 200 sites and it is $15.75 per night. there is running water. reservations are not taken, but it says that plenty of sites are available. it is open from june through early october.

I thought I read some where that a rally was planned for the Newberry Volcanic park sometime this year.
Anyone remember anything about that???
I get confused easily.

hey gary.

i just read that yesterday. weird thing is, when i was looking in the rally section i couldn't find anything about it the other day. i am all for going to newberry too. if it would just stop raining, maybe i could actually work on the trailer.

i am originally from florida and up until last june i have been living in the desert. i love oregon in the summer, but the rain is a bummer. if the airstream was done right now and i could hang out in there that would be a different story. then the rain wouldn't be bad. unfortunately, we were in the middle of replacing everything when it started raining, so right now i am trying to control the leaks.

Yep the rain is a pain when it stays mainly on the Willamette plain.
I think that's right.
We were just in Hood River Saturday doing a show, and it rained just like Portland.

Well back to the Rally.
It looks like there is some interest in this happening and with our tight schedule it would be easier to go if I was able to pick the date.

Do we all want this to happen? If I get 10 responses in the positive, I will do the foot work to make it happen. I will check on location and dates.
So if you are interested let me know.

Oh my God - are you nuts?

I'm changing my screen name!

How about doing this in conjuction with a music festival? Maybe Central Wa Bluegrass fest - in Moses lake?

Janet - leave the screen name unless, of course, you're going to change it to Gary's Wife.

Pick a date and we'll see who can make it then. My summer's pretty open still, and we'd definitly like to join in.

I'm the one who keeps posting about the Newberry Crater rally. It's hosted by the Oregon Unit of the WBCCI. Everyone with an AS is welcome to join us though. The post with all the details is in the Rally Zone section. It's August 13-16.

Janet is talking about the 3rd week in September for the Central Washington Bluegrass Festival.
I was thinking more in the June time frame.
Central Oregon or so.

so far our lives are very up in the air for the summer. we have work here until june 5th, so we know we are here up until then.

i would say that we are in and if we have to back out at the last minute so be it, but we don't want to put our lives on hold and not make any plans.

i will go check out the newberry crater rally.

My first attempt at posting a photo. If all fails have patience.

SHORT CUT TO CRATER LAKE !

DO NOT TAKE IT !

Somewhere in Washington State (can't recall the river 180ft. below), but I'll bet my Airstream the truck driver never forgets it.

I saw that one in the local paper. Said the guy got caught by a gust of wind. No one got hurt but the driver needed a clean pair of shorts - STAT!
