My wife and I will be streamin' from Texas to Indiana (Valparaiso, Goshen, Wauwasee) this summer around July 4th. Are there any recommended camp facilities in those areas? We need electric hookups and water. Sewer would be nice. We will have our 16' International CCD in tow.

Thanks for your suggestions.

At Wawasee you should try Oakwood. Is not directly on the lake but close.

Indiana Dunes State Park is not too far, and very nice. Electric for sure - not sure if any sites are offered with full hook ups. The State Park is tucked into the National Lakeshore, which has another, separate campground.

indiana state parks

if traveling in indiana, one should not miss any of their state parks. On the hoosier tour we have stayed in two so far. The one at Versailles is a magnificient park. Whitewater memorial near liberty is also great. All Indiana parks have electric. there is water available but not at the site. they all have dump stations.....

Indiana Dunes SP is most likely full for the 4th of July weekend. Their weekends fill up early. They have electric & a dump station (really nice park, though--I go every year for 2 weeks). Indiana Dunes National Park is primitive camping. I don't think they even have electric there. Not really nice in my opinion & you have to drive to the beach.

Thanks for the good input. With the medical equipment I travel with I must have electric (30 amp) and water connections. I have heard that the Goshen 4-H Fair Grounds has full hookups, and they do not show any July 4th activities. Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with this facility?

Thanks,
Bennett and Dianne

I don't know about the Goshen fairgrounds, but I've been to a KOA near to Shipshewanna (which isn't too far from Goshen & not far off the tollway). I'm sure they have full hookup sites. Also, the town of Shipshewanna is a nice stop with lots of quaint shops & local Amish artisans. It would be (IMHO) a more interesting visit than Goshen. If you're just looking for a quick overnight stop, the KOA would be fine too. You'd just skip the Shipshewanna tour & be on your merry way!
