Greater St Louis Herman Wine Country Rally
Just a short report on the first rally that Marianne and I hosted. This last weekend, 14-17 August 2003, the Greater St Louis had their annual August rall in Herman, Mo. At one time Herman was the third largest wine producing area in the world, and it still make a lot of wine. The rally was held at the city park in Herman, it has several sites with full hookups and lots more with 30amp and water. There is a pool, tennis courts and ball fields on site as well. We had 9 units from the local unit, plus one guest, Blair Prestin, from the Washington DC unit. Friday we toured the local Museum dedicated to the early settlers home in Herman and Had supper at the Rivertown Diner. Saturday it was off to Stone Hill Winery for a tour and wine tasting, the tour provided a welcome relief from the 90+ temps outside. The wine vaults are all under ground, carved from limestone. Supper that eveing was Roast Beef and a carry in dish from each unit. Games followed for those hearty enough to stand the heat. Sunday morning was breeakfast, worship services and then it was time to leave. Marianne an I learned a lot about organizing and leading a rally and to the best of my knowledge every one had a good time except for the heat.
