Get Together in Austin TX area

Some of us have made reservations for June 3-5 at McKinney Falls State Park on the south end of Austin. The more the merrier.

Wow, haven't been there since Hector was a pup. Of course, I went to grade school practically a stone's throw from it.

We'll be coming off of a South Llano trip in May, followed by a Guadalupe River trip later that month, but we'll definitely look into it.

Can you reserve by areas or campsite number?

If so, which area are your reservations?

Texas state parks allow you to reserve only a class of site, not any particular sites. ie. W&E or WE&S.

What we did at Pedernales Falls was have someone (me) collect all the reservation numbers, get there first thing in the morning when the office first opens, and get everyone sites as close as possible. Since the site is prepaid for one day, this is a legal thing to do.

That said, McKinney Falls isn't a real big park and no one should be too far from the others.

I'll look at my schedule and come if I can. We have a unit rally the 12th-15th, but I think I'm free the first week of the month..

Is this campout for any particular group or is it for anyone? We are new to the airstream thing and would love to get together with some airstream veterans. Austin isn't that far of a drive from Dallas.

Open to anyone, don't care if you have an Airstream or not. Of course, the more aluminum the better. Just go online and make the reservation for the state park. We're in the Dallas Ft. Worth area (Southlake). We'll head down that Friday, maybe we'll see you on the road. Send me a PM if you make the reservations.

Just came from the Texas State Parks reservations site and have made reservations to join the fun, at least Friday and Saturday. One good thing, the park is near one of our favorite barbeque places, the Salt Lick! The Salt Lick has been featured on the Food Network and has some of the best barbeque on the planet. So, from Corpus Christi, count me and my wife in!

Perhaps this will be the incentive I need to get busy and do some maintenance on the trailer which I've been procrastinating for a couple months.

From one who lives just 5 miles from the Salt Lick, I have to say that there are far better barbeque places in Austin. I seldom go to the Salt Lick; it is good, close, and picturesque, but far from the best barbeque.

Even closer to McKinney Falls, try the baby backs at Artz Rib House on South Lamar. As a bonus, you get live music just about every night of the week.

Sounds like a plan!

Hi, John,
Will try and make it!
It would be fun to show off the '68 Overlander you helped me pick out a few years back! We got some of the leaks plugged and drapes from JPAdrapes.com and are ready to fine tune the brake controller(Tekonsha:Prodigy) we purchased. It worked intermittently when we took it to the Pedernales River in October. We need to road test it again.
Speaking of the Salt Lick (I am about 8 miles from there on 3236 into Wimberley- it is *not* very near McKinney Falls)-----I am recovering from my latest foot surgery to put my heel back together again after a headon collision on CR1826 last April at Bear Creek. Watch out for drivers crossing the double yellow line! The woman who hit me was simply not paying attention. I feel fortunate to be here, albeit I am permanently limited in mobility due to fractured heel.
Looking forward to seeing you and others!
Martha

Darn!

Looks like I waited too long to make a reservation. Reserve America shows the park as all full. I can check periodically with the reservations number and see whether there are any cancellations. I wasn't sure of our schedule until now. I may drive out to the park Saturday and see who I can find (only 22 miles from home).

Hi Dennis, I'm going to arrive Thursday afternoon and will try to secure a cluster of shady spaces first thing Friday. TinHut's wife is gathering the name, reservation no., and unit length info so I can try to match unit length to campspace. She will be getting all that info together and to me tomorrow. We'll be looking forward to meeting everyone.

Bob and Sandra Thompson, Corpus Christi.
