Is anyone going to be there this afternoon? I have to go to Princeton to pick a friend up at AMTRAK... we'll stop in for a bit to visit on the way home if anyone else is going to be there early!

Hello everybody, well it’s on. We have a fall camp out scheduled for October 11 October 12 October 13, 2019 we are going to Johnson-Sauk Trail State recreation area. The address is 28616 Sauk Trail Rd., Keewanee, IL 61443. Their direct phone number is area code 309 853-2425. The area of the park where we are reserving is sites numbers 3 through site 16 currently there are 13 sites available in addition, if we have more units there about 10 more sites available on the next loop over. The cost is $20 per night and they have 30 amp electrical service at each site. The park does have water just like Moraine View and they do have a dumpsite like Moraine View. There are things to do nearby, there is the Ryan Round Barn and the Francis Ppark historical house. There is much hiking available and I’ve heard that the campground is beautiful. Haley and I have booked site 10. Reservations can be made through reserve America. The staff at the park recommends that we book immediately because of the fall colors the park will fill up. I hope you all can make it I look forward to camping with you all again soon. Curt

Thank you, Cottage, for getting us together again. We had a wonderful time seeing everyone and even made some new friends. We hope to meet up again down the road. Take care; safe travels everyone.

Sorry we had to duck out early... Had a minor catastrophe at 5:30am after walking the dogs. Pulled the door shut behind me and the handle came off in my hand! Evidently not an uncommon problem in the AS community as the handle is just press fit into the lock mechanism, but without internet and spotty phone service, the only option was to pull the screen on the egress window, slide out and come around to open the door from the outside. After taking the lock apart to survey the situation, we just decided to wrap things up at daylight and head out. Fixing it tomorrow in time for the boondock this weekend!

P.S. Lesson here is don't pull the door shut using the black handle... Obvious now, but... Duh!

Thanks again and great seeing you all! See ya soon (I hope).

All fixed... Added an emergency release access hole in the screen door frame as well. A thin screwdriver to pop the latch now lives in the utensil drawer.Click image for larger version

Thumbs up inside door handle

If happens & window next to door just remove screen or pop out reach around use out side handle , if popped screen very easy to replace, simple tool very cheap, also can use pop sickle stick etc. to roll spline back into groove. Screen very cheap at big box stores & very simple to replace. No jigs or any thing else needed, simply lay screen over frame roll in spline trim excess of, all under $5.00 plus screening left over for use other windows.

Ah, if only we were so lucky, Bill. All the Windows on either side of our door are fixed. The secret catch release is easy to deploy and a good bit of information to squirrel away.

Would have a vice grip inside opened the door on the spline?

We tried every bit of silverware, utensil, pliers, etc. to catch the plate that had separated from the handle, alas to no avail. The pivot point of the handle is so critical to the working of the internal mechanism, just couldn't put enough torque on the innards to pop the latch without it. The key is the secret release button. So simple, yet so hidden...Click image for larger version

The little release tab is part of the latch. I drilled the hole in the screen door frame to access it when the door is closed

Thank all of you so much for welcoming me to your circle of friends. It’s always a little overwhelming to go to a rally knowing no one but when I left Monday morning, I felt like I was surrounded by new friends. Fun rally, good location, better people! Hope to see you down the road. Cash says “hi.”[ATTACH]

If the weather is decent, Mark and I will be at Comlara Camp in Hudson, IL the weekend of 10/25. The electric will be on and water (unless there’s extreme weather). First come basis after 10/20. We’ve never been there but don’t want the season to end yet!
