Exploring Under the Bridge was such a great rally that it is hard to let the thread go.

In addition to our thanks to the organizers, contributors, participants, and captain and his crew -- we especially thank all the photographers. So many wonderful moments of this rally were captured and shared.

And, thank you TinLoaf for our new avatar picture. Your photo of sunrise over the lake reflecting off our Airstream made all the time maccamper spent polishing our trailer worth the effort.

What a great rally!

Just a quick update. We totally forgot to announce the results of the raffle income. The raffle ticket sales generated $585 which went straight to Adam to fuel the boat. In addition, the money that came in from scenic rides and the fishing trips pushed us just past the break-even point. Whew!

I have to admit, I was worried Adam would take a financial hit and be less likely to attend a future rally, so that's a big relief.

Thanks to everyone who donated towards the raffle, Eastman Outdoors, Ed's Iron River Knife Works, CanAm RV Centre, Vintage Trailer Supply, Subway Restaurants, Kelly's Airline Miles, and more.

That Avatar is gorgeous! Thank you for the tour of your one-of-a-kind, custom Airstream. It is a pure labor of love.

I'm having rally withdrawal.
I managed to sneak back up north last weekend and catch myself a salmon which needed some blogging about. Most fisherman brag; I blog.

Here's a shout out to everyone who ponied up and ponied up bigger bucks than were due. It was so kind; THANK YOU. I'm in the process of writing a story about our rally and sending it to the Boston Whaler publication and the Airstream Magazine...two titans in the industry. Both made in America and both brands cater to detail minded owners who understand quality and lifetime vs. price.

Finally, Steve (Tin Loaf) please know that it has been such a pleasure working with you on this project. We worked like peas and carrots. If you want to plan another rally at the south end of Lake Michigan or in the Manistee area, I'm sure I can sweet talk my little pirate into joining us again.

I hope that someone will post a link to the 2013 rally thread when it is established! Looks like this one was such a blast. I'm sorry to have missed it!

Seems Like Such a Long Time Ago...

I realize for most of you the rally seems like a long time ago but for us we just returned from our extended trip to Michigan so the entire experience only recently came to an end for us. I've just begun culling through the pictures to see what we have on file. I wanted to post a few things related to our trip. In the next few days maybe I'll come up with some more pics...

For now, something I promised to do was check out the Straights State Park in St. Ignace. St. Ignace is just north of the Mackinac Bridge. Like many state parks in Michigan the campsites do not have water at the site. There are water locations on each loop so you can fill your fresh tank but you cannot hook to it indefinitely. All sites, except the waterfront sites, have electric. In one of the pictures below you'll see the paved road that loops through the campground closest to the bridge. In that picture the A sites are on the water and regular numbered sites are across the road. Both sites are reasonably large and can handle large trailers although maybe not with your tow vehicle connected. Many of these sites have very good views of the bridge and everyone has beach access via several paths that lead down to the lake.

An Indirectly Related Note...

Our Habitat for Humanity RV Care-A-Vanner build in Iron Mountain was a great success! Seeing some of the U.P. while helping to build a house for somebody was a wonderful experience. I'll post more pictures on the Habitat RV Care-A-Vanner thread but I wanted to show everyone from the Bridge Rally what 12 - 15 relatively inexperienced people can do in two weeks. I realize a good framing crew could do this same amount of work in a few days but we all feel we did an excellent job considering our level of experience.

What you don't see in the pictures is the fact that the entire basement has been insulated, all the interior walls studs are installed, and some of the windows are installed.

The pictures show what the foundation looked like on the first day when we arrived and our progress two weeks (10 work days) later. The third picture is the homeowner (on the right) giving Danielle a hug at the farewell dinner.

Any thoughts for a 2013 rally? Mid to late May would work for us - the weekend prior to Memorial Day or the week leading up to Memorial Day.

Happy New Year 2013 to all my Airstreaming friends. Thank you for your interest in another rally. Haven't any plans so far but will definitely consider it. I'm so grateful for the good times we all shared last year...those memories have kept me warm this winter.

Off to Reno, NV tomorrow to the Ovis Grand Slam convention for sheep hunters. My husband is the 1,740th person EVER to achieve a grand slam in sheep hunting, harvesting one of four kinds of sheep from all over North America. Right now, though, he is down with a nasty flu bug and I've ordered my big tuff swamp buck hunter to the doctor's office--his appointment is in an hour. Gotta run!

Miss you all and wishing you all the best during the off season. Let me know where you'll be this year and I am going to try to come to some of those events.

Kelly

Big Swamp Buck Hunters Unite

You are more than welcome to "friend" my husband, John Kupiec, on facebook. There are three of them listed (his dad, him, and our son!) He is the one with the wild goat harvest as his profile. Go figure!

He would love to talk about hunting with anyone who hunts.

Happy New Year,
Kelly

Great to See Barry & Karen and Dan and Dawn at Urban Air 2013 in Eaton Rapids this year! Wonderful to share another great rally with you. I'm headed to the Chili Cookoff in Wellington, OH at the Findlay State Park Oct 23-27. Saw that WineStream is confirmed. I know Barry and Karen will be there, too. A mini reunion!! Hope you all have had a great camping season...Much love to all as the HenHouse rolls on. Kelly
