Last year we took a trip over to Johnson City Sat. night after dinner festivities to see the lights there and attended an out door living nativity at a local church. Will probably do so this year so anybody interested in going let us know. It's a short drive but worth it. Got back to camp for some good coffee and fire side conversations.

Also we have a huge (I mean huge) grand prize for the site with the best Christmas decorations!!!!!
Come on and join in the fun.
Below is a "standard" pink flamingo decorated circa December, 2003.

Trust me, a pathetic set of antlers held in place with electrical tape will NOT win this years contest....I suspect pink feathers, boas, sequins, rhinestones, glitter, beads, and other superfluities will be required to win a prize in 2010.

Standard pink flamingos will be provided (yours to keep and treasure). The kids will have their own flamingo to decorate and will be judged in a category separate from the adult submitals.

The judges have warned that they expect some very high standards.

A healthy dose of imagination will help all pre-purchase the required appurtenances for a winning endeavor.

Rumor has it that the judges may be swayed by attention (sucking up) and adult beverages.

Who are the judges? How does one become a judge? How much does it cost to buy off a judge?

Rich,

It takes a full bar serving free beers and pina coladas with two young bartenders, or it takes a 50's style cafe serving cokes and sliders. Either way gets you the big prizes

Yes, the Blanco rally is an executive level event. Some ladies were sighted wearing fur coats to the Friday dinner. It's a group that takes Airstreaming to a high level. Expect to see one Flamingo wearing pearls and painted toe nails.

At the local goodwill shop today I found a pink flamingo and palm tree hand soap dispenser, two pink flamingo candles, a pink flamingo handbag with pink sequins, and a set of flamingo swizzle sticks. $9.36 total. These will make excellent rally prizes whenever we get to attend another event.

Wow Chris,

That is very cool. I'll be stuck in COLD missouri doing nothing but studying of that weekend. Look forward to maybe getting together again while I'm down there over Jan and Dec.

Today I had a little free time and drove up to Blanco and checked out the park. It's a nice little park that has everything you'd need. Someone has their Airstream there already. I also checked out Blanco Settlement a few miles outside town. It is a nice place as well. Hope to see you all late on the 10th or the 11th.

Lance:

Did you secure a camping spot in Blanco?

If so, please post what you did - I have had a couple of inquiries for available sites.

Dennis,
I have checked and checked the online site. I haven't found any available RV spots. There are the "shelter" spots available. I spoke with the park ranger in the office. He stated if you reserve one of the five shelters you must be one of the first three to arrive to get one of the three shelters that will accommodate a trailer. I did not make a reservation.I doubt that we'll be able to arrive before 8:00pm on Friday. We may just wait until Saturday so we can set up in the light. Hopefully we can get a spot at the park, but if not we'll be close enough and camping for the first time in our Airstream.

Weather is Lookin' Good

Extended Forecast calls for a decent Blanco Rally.

Friday mid 70's, Saturday low 70's and sunny, Sunday in the high 60's.

Both Saturday and Sunday morning lows in the mid 40's.

No frozen hoses this year!

There was no rain mentioned in the forecast.

Looks as if it will be a REALLY nice day on Saturday - hope some San Antonio and Austin people will be some last minute attendees.

I just checked the Blanco SP page and noticed that the lake will be stocked with fresh rainbow trout on the 9th. Don't forget to bring your poles; the flamingos like trout!

Spent the weekend washing and waxing the Airstream. Its gleaming like a jewel, at least as much as an alcoa clad stream can. Loading some of the supplies in now in prep for the big weekend. My girls are quite excited and make some kind of nest on the front bed. Camping spirit has arrived!

Well, no room at the Inn. So.....I have worked out a deal with the little gas station/restaurant.....a mile north of the Park to stay in their lot. Guess what?....live music Friday and Sat night in their little Bar. Hope I survive the Honkey Tonk environment.
