Checking Interest - "Caravan to Yucatan 2018"

I am opening this thread to gauge interest in the community towards participating in a caravan to the Yucatan Penninsula, Mexico come summer 2018, or later. From my perspective, it would be a caravan of a decidedly archaeological/historical nature, though while we're there, beaches, alcohol, dirt-cheap rugs and plates would also be admissible as well.

If you are interested, drop your forum names either here or a PM to me individually. I am open to feedback on both self-run (communal) or agency run caravans, with any feedback from members whove undertaken this excursion in the past. Yes, feel free to discuss concerns; but let's not tangent too badly please?

Ian

Something I would really enjoy doing but don't think I would EVER do by myself. Things are just too tumultuous in the border areas these past years. BUT, something I would be interested in thinking about.

That would be a very interesting caravan to participate in, fabulous trip if a measure of safety could be assured. Would the weather be nicer in winter/spring months?

I travel to Mexico often. I love that country. I would however suggest you put a lot of thought into security. You will need locals to grease the wheels along the way I think. The police you pass are going to take great interest in you as you pass through and any tail light out is going to be looked at carefully. I suspect you will also be of great interest to those looking for an easy score. You will most likely need a security detail with your caravan.

My wife and I have taken our trailer into Mexico twice. The first time Yucatan was the goal. A death in the family caused us to leave the trailer on the Emrald Coast and return for it 2 weeks later. We then started for home.
There is a train ferry out of Mobile that goes near Yucatan. I have thought about shipping our rig.

The security issues notwithstanding, you might get far more interest if the trip is in the winter rather than summer. Are you familiar with this blog?

A winter trip would most likely spark greater interest for us. Hold that thought.

We would definitely be interested in this trip --- have wanted to do this, but really would prefer to be part of a group.
