Kev,
A blend of the two is ideal. The hardwood will burn slow and steady and keep the coals going. The softwood will burn bright and provide light. I would go for half a cord of each.

Food

You can put Mr. and Mrs. Herky Pig down for a spicy bean dish with elken as the guest (unless there are objections...we could always just supply the elk and forget the beans or have the beans and forget the elk or????? Matters not to us, we can fill in whatever is needed).

Coming from Phoenix for a fast run there. Any thoughts for routes? Nice place to stay along the way? Prefer Nat'l Forest/Park, etc.

Getting excited!

Hi Steve and Reg,

..sounds great!..Steve and I made elk stew at last year's rally!..he's a hunter and a fisherman, so he'll probably think up something 'wild' and 'gamey' to share!!!. for the dinner potluck.

Looking forward to meeting you2..also to come to the Brunch earlier Saturday..bring a dish to share...more food, more fun!!..paula

Hey Paula,

Since your Elk Stew was widely received last year, how about Steve's Famous Elk 'n' Beans for the potluck and for breakfast/brunch, elken sausage patties? Or would everyone be too elked out if you are doing your stew again?

Change and adjust these menu items as you please to whatever is needed though, really. We cook so we really don't care.

Reg
