Nice, is that 14 in a row?
Do you know Tincrumpet? I believe she's near London also. I tease her about coming to the burn now and then. Her(Lili) and her husband Hans1, and son Hans2 came to the Casini Rally last year after coming over here to pick up their Airstream motorhome and met a lot of the forum folks. The thread Lili started is wonderful reading. Its over 8000 posts and 260000 views since 12/9/2009. I highly recommend it.
Hope to see you at the burn,
Rich the Viking

Hi Rich,

I managed to miss one year and promised never to be that stupid again. It was torture, I spent the whole week watching the Playa on webcam.

I don't know Tincrumpet, I should really contribute to the UK scene, but my trailer is stored in Reno. We use it for our summer vacations and extra little trips around the West Coast.

I'll check Lili's thread out! At BM, I'm based at Media Mecca in Center Camp and have visited the Airstreamers on a couple of occasions. I will be over this year with some drink or maybe I should consider hosting a little gathering at our place... Hmmmm.

All best wishes and see you on the Playa!

Hey Rich,
I'm having a friend make a tutu for me. I will look forward to seeing you. Have you got your Airstream fixed up yet? I'm heading off to New Orleans for Mardi Gras in a couple of weeks. All I do these days is party.

Hi Julie,
Can't wait to see the tutu!
My Safari has been terribly neglected. It's still full of playa dust and mementos.

How sweet! Mardi Gras. I'm a little green right now. Envy, that is, not bad fish.
Bring me a couple of hundred plastic necklaces when you come back:P

Cheers to the party,
Rich the Viking

Hey that looks like home! Who wants to be on the committee to get us in the Yearbook this year?

That would be a blast - we could all wear aluminum and give their camera light meters fits!

...and Archie looks fabulous, as usual!

Rich,
I will be sure to have a hand grenade or ten for you. You must have some great "mementos" in that neglected Airstream. You want only a couple of hundred necklaces? I'll do my best.

I've got to get down there and see Mardi Gras. First on my list is Reykjavik, Iceland for New Years though. Hopefully this coming year.

Have a great time!

So Perry et al what's new for our theme camp this year?

Maybe a carnival of some sort offering games of skill, luck, or what the *er* heck.
We could all come up with assorted tricks and treats.
Might be fun for the whole family...

Thoughts?

Thinking, Thinking, Thinking....ouch. Enough of that for one day. Surely others are better at planning activities. I'd suggest not doing food or bar, or something needing much more construction than what we had last year. I'll try to line up some geotype conscripts-er volunteers. Doesn't need to be geologists, anyone that might want to present an informal scientific talk for a few folks, or be around once in a while to answer simple questions with long verbose convoulted multisyllabic arm waving postulatitudinal responses heavily interspersed with Greek and Latin sounding isms, step right up. My three minutes of knowledge don't fill an evening for sure.

Bam,
I think that since we need to interact more with the community that your idea may work and would be relatively easy I think. We could incorporate some of these games with the scientific themes that were discussed earlier. And/Or come up with some vintage games. Like instead of pin the tail on the donkey we could pin little airstreams on Perry : ) I like the carni idea. What does everyone else think?

The ideas for carni games are endless. And it is easy.

Just pick a day and time, put up a few signs, and have some fun.
Burnstream court did it in 2007 and it was fun.

Everyone can pick something and we can have a variety of things/games/entertainment to offer.

I have an old vintage croquet set. How civilized!

Some things we've done @ other theme camps:

  1. ran a bar.... fun, but kind of boring after doing it one evening... bondage theme one year was unusual... dealing w/ really blitzed folks not that fun.
  2. built talking rude flowers - funny, but lots of technical issues. .. did not require lots of time on playa.
  3. ran a "make your own edible pasties" kiosk w/ fortune cookie dough.... really funny, and not boring.
  4. various cooking themes - food/neat beverages are a bigger draw than alcohol. Green tea was popular. Coffee is always a win (remember our charming barista next door...).
  5. Games are fun... figure out prizes ahead of time.
  6. One camp did giant jenga - much hilarity.

If we get our camp listed in "what where when how" guide, lots more
folks show up....

Bart, remind me of that when it gets closer to filling out the application.

I just went back through the posts, Zep mentioned doing a presentation on mapping software, types of maps, datums and such..Bart might do a presentation on a propane poofer..Charlyf might have GIS capability...I'll probably have some little talk about the playa dust.. There's already a few evenings after dinner possibilities for the boring science stuff... Bam and Jojo have some fun carni ideas, and hey its still Valentines Day.

Good going already!
Mid April I'll need to be getting an idea of the size of the camp to beg for, 2010's camp was a pure guess, with Zep and Mark's help.

Next, how many BM 2011 tee shirts should we get ordered, if there's interest in at least a few dozen I'm pretty sure I could coerce an artist I know, (or we could ask him to make us more of his BM 2009 Evolution shirts that few folks have yet) .... and there's a pendant design in the works like the one I wore last year, we're adding an outline of an A/S inside the Man.

BurningMan Theme this year is something about ROP, not sure what we could do with rope....

We also have an old croquet set, but how's this for a variation:

I have 3 hedgehog squeaky toys, mint condition, that are nearly round enough to roll. If we turn our plastic pink flamingos upside down, we could have a croquet game ala Alice in Wonderland.

My wife (Kim) and I will be on the Playa once again this year, our 6th. We will be camping with another camp but would love to hang out from time to time. We have never been to a rally and so I have no idea what an original Airstream looks like. My 69 Overlander is sure not one
