Question Borrego Palm Canyon Campground New Years Eve

Any 'Streamers heading to Borrego Palm Canyon in Anza Borrego State park for New Years? Last year there were a number of 'Streamers but no organized New Years Eve party. If this sounds good to you, let's get organized and have a real New Years Eve party complete with food, libations, music and good times. Any interest?

Jill,

Not that I can think of now, but I will discuss with the rest of my party. I was thinking about grilled pizza, think California Pizza Kitchen or Wolfgang Puck for topping choices, not just sausage and red sauce.

We were there last year...

Sorry ya'll but we're heading for Picacho Peak in Arizona with the 4CU... We were there last year, great place to bring in the New Year. In fact, we were there just a few weeks ago, space 50.
You have fun, look for ya next year, great idea!

We were there for New Year's 2008/2009...with several other Airstreamers (including wkerfoot) ...it was an impromptu gathering... good time, and a great place for New Year's! Great weather, too (at least when we were there)...

looking forward to seeing you at Picacho, this year, BobU!

Dan and I are looking forward to meeting everyone! We will be bringing some Chili to share with the group New Years eve (sounds like the weather will be perfect Chili weather) and some excellent libations. Even have a sample of some North Carolina apple jack special!

Thanks to everyone who came by for our New Years Celebration. It was nice to meet some new and old friends.

It's not New Years Eve,

However, but we have discovered this Anza-Borrego Palm campground. We are headed there tomorrow...After a stay at he SKP JoJoba Hills camp where we are exploring the area... I love the huge rocks everywhere and the rolling hills that are green and beautiful....We made an excursion to the campground to scope it out ...and can't wait to get back there for a three day stay

The truckers atlas list San Diego county road S-22 as the "Montezuma grade with 8 to 9% grade for eleven miles"...and it looks it...;ong steep decents and dropoffs and a dramatic view of the valley below....I do not want to climb this hill...druther sail down it

Yesterday made the trip to the "rim of the world"...which is CA 18 up to Lake Arrowhead and then back down via CA 138 to I15 near the Cajon pass....just a spectacular drive.....

Today we are venturing west on CA74 to lake Esinore and San Juan Capistranio......look for the swallows

Interestingly, whenever we leave AB I always choose to CLIMB S-22. I would rather go up it than go down it!

Please let us know how 74 between Lake Elsinore and Capistrano is. I did that one time without the trailer and it seemed like I told myself not to take the trailer on it.

You're a bit early for the Swallows...they usually fly into town on March 19...back from Argentina, it's said...I wonder if Homeland Security has checked them out as the cross the border, coming North...

swallows at capistranio

of course they are harbingers of spring...but it is a wonder they find their way back these days.......

route from lake elsinore to capistranio was a great drive...but i would not take the airstream...not that one could not do it...but mostly one would not WANT to do it, much the same with 74 as it continues estward

i like the downward treck much more than the pull........

That is the way we always go. 79 from Temecula. Turn on County S2 like we are going to go down Montezuma but continue down to 78 and then to Yaqui. I would not like the 78 out of Julian eastbound through Banner (Banner grade).

However you may not like the Yaqui pass. It is about 3-5 miles of curvy climb but the downhill is very consistent. This is how I, and my wife, like it.

Go to google maps and choose the Terrain option for a good view. They also have Streetview for all these routes.

the banner grade

well.......i took the road less traveled, and now...i am glad i did..had i had not done it without the trailer...i would not have done it with the trailer

79 to 78 and julian...and then you are trapped....not too bad as far a grade is concerned but as windy and curvy as it can be....but just beautiful country...and the yaqui pass was just a pretty desert drive.....wind advisory up today and it is windy in the park...but otherwise beautiful
