Alumaslider IV 2023 Slide Out Society and Airstream Get Together
When: Weekend after Labor Day September 7-10, 2023
Where: Hickory Hollow Campground, 176 Big Hickory Rd. Rockwood PA 15557
Airstreamers,
Enjoy late summer early fall festivals and attractions in the Laurel Highlands of PA in and around Somerset County
This camp is in the Laurel Highlands of PA, just south of Somerset and south east of Pittsburgh at Hickory Hollow Campground. The camp was fully occupied for this weekend this year. Those of you that ski might have heard of nearby Seven Springs but we’re too early for skiing this trip.
Aside from our informal get together there are several things happening the weekend after Labor Day in the area and that’s part of the reason for visiting the area.
Mountain Craft Days, Somerset Historical Center. September 8-10, 2023.

Founded in 1970 this festival celebrates and has working displays of many unique old-time crafts but I think better to be thought of as skills. We’ve seen: Blacksmithing, sugar camp, flax scutching, weaving, splitting logs into split rail fences, food, and so many more artistic and life skills. In the Historical Center they have had quilt making and many ladies practicing bobbin lace making. Try to follow that one. Did I mention the food?
Farmers and Threshermens Jubilee, New Centerville RVFD. September 7-10, 2023.

OK guys, like to watch steam engines on parade, a running 800 HP 55 ton Chicago Pneumatic diesel stationary engine, steam powered cider press, horse and tractor pulls, more antique farm equipment and oh yeah food and lots more. Benefits to the New Centerville Rural Volunteer Fire Dept.
And saving the must be visited for last the Flight 93 Memorial in nearby Stoystown. Linda and I visited in 2007 and the memorial was a chain link memory fence, benches and a docent to host and a lone USA Flag off in the field. It's now a National Memorial.

I suggest checking your calendar and reserving ASAP and consider adding a few extra days, come early or stay later and enjoy the Laurel Highlands. Linda and I have been to Mountain Craft Days and Farmers and Threshers several times while we lived in OH and our last trip was 2007. This year we visited all of the above and more with Tom n Wendy aka STREMN and it was a memorable week. And PA sweet corn was still in season and darn good too.
We’ll make the camp casual plans on the fly. No rally fee, share as you like and enjoy.
The attached YouTube is a series of stills mostly taken by Tom n Wendy when we visited this year.
