Almost time to turn the corner

Thanksgiving has come and gone, Christmas is bearing down on us, a new year is looming, nearly time to turn the corner.

Soon we will be finalizing plans.

For all of you that have responded on the RSVP page with your name and site #....thanks. If you haven't responded yet, please do so, it is a huge help for planning. ALUMALINA is now listed on the RALLY CALENDER on the bottom of the portal page. Easy to click on it and post a simple note.

We still have 19 black trailers on the map. Hopefully most of them are our Airstream friends that have not surfaced yet. If you can confirm one of the black trailers as friends, please let us know so we can update the map and compile a head count.

Remember that any and all are welcome, and the only thing mandatory is that you have fun.

It will be difficult not to have fun sitting in the middle of 50-60 Airstreams.

John

Alumalina Spring 2015 Map Update 11-29-2014

Good morning Alumalina enthusiasts! Saturday morning seems like a good time for a map update. We now have 52 trailers colored silver on the map and the section at the bottom for the site list is full. Don't worry, if some of you hiding in the black trailers wish to reveal yourselves I'll be happy to turn your trailer to silver and find a way to include you on the list. John included the current list in his post #161 above so I won't repeat it in this post.

Link to the updated map is:

Alumalina Spring 2015 Campground Map

We also ask you to register with the rally on the RSVP page. Your reservation with the park doesn't tell the rally organizers you are coming. Use the link below to get to the RSVP page. Scroll to the bottom, indicate you are attending or canceling. In the box type in your site number and first names of the people in your trailer or motorhome.

Alumalina Spring 2015 Rally Reservations (RSVP)

First and foremost I must thank "BRETT" very much for letting me know about this wonderful gathering of Air Stream folks. John (SANDLAPPER) Thank you so very much for the wonderful welcome that you gave me. You made me welcome and feel very good indeed. It was my very first time around Air Stream folks and I have owned an Air Stream for over 12 years.. I want to thank Gary and his wife who are my neighbors up the road in Hartsville SC for looking out for me and making me very welcome and very much at ease. Over all it was a most wonderful time that I had with you all and I do look forward to seeing y'all in the Spring 2015 Alumalina. May everyone have a very happy and wonderful Holiday Season. One of the things I like most about rallies is the small intimate campgrounds with 40 - 80 sites. But on the other hand it saddens me to think that when an event becomes popular some people who'd like to attend can't because there's no more sites.

Are there any "day visitors" who come to social events but camps nearby?

Paula

John will likely chime in on this better, but I am pretty certain there have been day visitors at all the Alumalina rallies.....not necesssarily in other campgrounds, but coming in for the day.

I know that the welcome has always been extended.

John,

I corrected our names on the list...mines a tricky one (Geven) and thus I usually just go by "G"! Glad we can make it. Ruthie and I have wanted to come since you and I had a brief conversation in Hiawassee. I didn't know anything about the event but enjoyed chatting with you. I figured if you're hosting, it must be pretty good. We didn't make the cut last event (park full) but are looking forward to this one.
I saw some familiar names on the list and am looking forward to hanging out with them.

Thanks, G (and Ruthie)

Thanks for straightening me out G. We are really glad to have you and Ruthie joining us this time. It is indeed a splendid crowd, and you are correct, many familiar faces.

Paula

Susan and I have been camping at Wateree SP for 25 years, one of our favorite CG's. It is a great place for a rally because of the 1 small loop, everyone is close.

That also presents a problem as you pointed out. There are folks that would like to attend but the park won't hold everyone. Plus, an even BIGGER problem from a host standpoint is the lack of a pavilion or shelter. We are at the mercy of the weather. A cold, wet weekend could sure put the skids on a good time. We have been mostly lucky on the weather but it is hard on the nerves leading up to the event. We've had some rain, mud, winds, hail (small), and lots of sun. We even put up our own pavilion once. But the uncertainty of the weather wreaks havoc on my single malt collection.

Ah, but we have a solution.....

We have decided to move the FALL ALUMALINA to the Palmetto Cove rally park in Cleveland, SC. The dates are October 22-25. ''the Cove'' was originally built as an Airstream Only park back in the 70's. Sometime in the 80's it became a not for profit, member owned park and opened to all brands. It is a wonderful facility with 140 FULL HOOK UP SITES, rally style parking (side by side) on beautiful thick grass, PLUS a meeting hall with a full kitchen and seating for 100+, PLUS a wonderful covered pavilion with a huge rock fireplace at one end (including free firewood) with room for another 100 or so, PLUS a very nice heated/cooled lounge with small kitchenette at the pavilion. NO CHARGE for use of these facilities. Also wifi and cell service. Parking is a deal at $25/night.

And all of this is set in the shadows of Table Rock and Ceasers Head Mountains just off of scenic SC Hwy 11 in the SC mountains. A beautiful area, especially in the Fall. Tons of hiking, waterfalls, mountains, or just peaceful relaxing.

And perhaps the best part, reservations are never needed nor taken, there are always sites. For rally planning purposes we will need a RSVP list.

It will be a farther drive for some (Susan and I), a shorter drive for others.
No matter which, it will be worth it and you will like it.

I will soon start a new thread with more details but for now lets focus on March. But please keep this move in mind. It will be a good thing for Alumalina.

John

Seems you have looked carefully at Palmetto Cove, John, which really sounds like a good way to go with Alumalina.....this larger, and more amenities-rich space.

In addition to more space for attendees, the idea of weather-resistant campfires and places to gather is very, very appealing......said by one who recalls vividly the rain, wind and hail at the very first Alumalina.

Sounds like a plan.

Yes Maggie, I thought about the move to Palmetto Cove long and hard. Wateree is fabulous in many respects, terribly lacking in others.

"the Cove" will make it much easier to gather. It was originally designed as an Airstream Rally Park, hence the side by side parking, meeting hall, shelter, lounge, and 3 point hookups.

Same great people, different location, bigger and better than ever.

You will like it.

Absolutely, John.

Of course you thought about this long and hard.....it's what you do, and why this rally has been such a huge success.

Imagine......no weather issues, room for everyone who wants to come....and no line-up at the dump station.

No maps, not quite.

Tis true Chuck, we will still need your expertise. They don't call it ''the Cove'' for nothing.

Actually, the Cove is easily accessible from Interstates 85 and 26, but one of your maps or anything else you may have up your sleeve will most definitely help guide folks in.

I suggest we make sure Levon is coming early, and just shine a bright light on his trailer to light up the sky for miles like a beacon.
