Alumalina, a Carolina Airstream Gathering

The Fall Edition October 12-14
Tom Johnson Camping Center Marion,NC

Ok folks, here it is, the fall rendezvous. For those of you who missed the inaugural gathering back in March, here is your chance to get in on the fun. Come hang out with other like minded folks who share the same Airstream passion. And while you're at it, enjoy the fall colors of the mountains of North Carolina. As always, there are only 3 rules:
1. be happy...
2. have fun...
3. share the love...

Marion, NC is just off I-40 in the foot hills of the NC mountains. It is in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mt. Mitchell, highest point east of the Mississippi. A wonderful area for fall leaf color.

Tom Johnson Camping Center is one of the largest RV dealerships in the southeast ( nope, no airstreams!) They have a very nice camping facility beside their service center.

Paved roads with paved, level full hook up sites. The sites are all identical. Easy, side by side back ins with plenty of nice grass in between. They are all 50A so you will need an adapter for 30A. No trees, no tables, no shelters, no mud. All open, all in a row, very good rally style parking. $30per night unless I can negotiate a rally rate.

Should be a great place for a rally, and of course the Blue Ridge mountains are right there.

And a bonus

The North and South Carolina Units of the WBCCI are holding their annual joint State Rally at the Palmetto Cove Rally Park on October 17-21. Usually around 50 rigs show up. "The Cove" was originally an Airstream only park built by the SC Unit. Open now to all brands. It is located just off SC highway 11 in the SC mountains. (yes, we have some too!!) $22 per night full hook up. There would be a rally fee.

Could be an opportunity to roll from one rally to another, and check out a club rally. You do not have to be a member. Just a thought. Susan and I hope to be there.

So...

Mark you calender, make your plans, bring a friend. Everyone is welcome. Remember, everyone pays their own way, no fees, just your parking. It's all about hanging out, having fun with like minded folks.

John and Susan

Ohhh, too bad! We'll be in Louisiana by then.

Have a great time and we'll hopefully see you in March.

Heck Maggie, we'll sure miss you & Doug. Wish it could work out. The Marion location is a nice spot, especially in the fall.

We will most very likely be back in Charlotte next March, same place, close to the same time. Got to check a couple dates. Go ahead and pencil us in.

And tell Doug that if he's not coming to the fall edition, well I guess I'll just have to get my own bottle of Jameson. I'll drink my part and his.

On the calendar for the third weekend in March.

Doug says he'll match you shot-for-shot of Jameson in the spring.

See y'all then.

Ha!!

If its cold in October, try a hot whiskey with that Jameson.

1 generous shot Jameson in a mug
1 sugar cube
1 lemon slice, studded with 3 whole cloves
Boiling water

This will warm you from the inside out.

Gosh, I hate to miss this. The spring event was wonderful -- even with the hail! Unfortunately, I'm out of the country until Saturday. Count me in for the next one. Barry

Oh! Brad and I were hoping to make the next aluminima but that's parents weekend at our son's college. He's a freshman going all the wy up to the UP - Michigan Tech. We planned on going to parents weekend as I was sure he would be missing us by then but the truth is, we'll probably be missing him a lot more than he will be missing us.

We'll watch for the March dates and hope we can make that one.

Have fun!

We will sure miss all of you. I know the feelling of a full plate, mine is full and running over. So much going on these days. The entire world is in over drive.

Go ahead and pencil in the March gathering. Not quite sure of the dates yet but close to the same time, same place in Charlotte. They couldn't accommodate us for the fall rally there. The Marion location is a great location though.

Thanks for chiming in. Safe travels.

John

Sorry to miss

John and Susan
All our Alumalina Friends:

We sure hate to miss this but have already arranged our week long vacation in Fredericksburg, VA (KOA) starting that weekend.

We had such a good time in Charlotte. Will plan to be there in March if possible.

Sounds tempting - it's the weekend after our rally which is the weekend after we return from Sugar Creek, Ohio. So many travel ideas on the bucket list! We'll think about and see what we can do.

Thanks for passing along the tip on the festival. Marion is a really nice area, ringed by the Blue Ridge.

So....along with great parking, beautiful scenery, and outstanding conversation.....a local Festival too!!

Hope you and Ed can make it. And you could stop off at the Carolina State Rally.

Campground Info

Tom Johnson Camping Center

1885 Hwy 70 West

Marion, NC 28752

1.800.225.78

New and Used RVs For Sale, Service, Parts Tom Johnson Camping Center Concord (Charlotte) and Marion North Carolina

Their service department handles reservations for the campground. When you call, just punch the service #, tell them you are with the Airstream group, ask for a site on MIDDLE STREET. They will keep us all together. Couldn't get a rally rate but the $30 is fair for a very nice facility.

I have been there many times and have never seen it even approach being crowded. They close the automatic gates at nite but everyone has the #. It is one of those key pad types. Easy.

When you pull up the CG, the map you see shows it very well. Those roads and sites are all paved, with beautiful grass all in between. There are no trees, it is all open.
As you can see the MIDDLE STREET should work well, everyone backs in, facing each other. The sites are deep, the entry has a nice radius. Easy backing.

The Catawba River runs along that back edge. They have fire pits there for camp fires. To their credit, they don't allow camp fires at the site unless in one of those raised portable pit things. The river bank is a great spot for campfires anyway. Maybe 200 yards from our sites.

And also to their credit, they frown on "rugs" on their grass. No rugs are necessary anyway. You step out on pavement. They work hard to maintain a top notch facility.

There is also a beautiful Customer Service Building right there with spotless rest rooms, laundry, a huge lounge and a cafe. And wifi.

And even though they don't sell Airstreams they have a well stocked parts/camping stuff store next door at the main building. They have a surprising amount of Thetford stuff.

If you have any questions or concerns let me know. We can work out the details as they develop.

John
