Brad and I will be there. We may come in a day or two early. If we do, should we make a reservation directly with the park for the extra days? I’m thinking the “official” rally will be three nights; Thurs, Fri and Sat night

Nope, just have to be there. Some folks don't even have a trailer, and some don't have Airstreams, so just be there when you can!

Woodworking Show

The location and timing of this year's Alumalina may be good for attendees with an interest in woodworking as a hobby. Typically there is a large woodworking show at the Hickory, NC Convention Center the last weekend in October. The show is sponsored by Klingspor, the large abrasives company, which has a major production facility in Hickory plus a chain of woodworking stores in the state. The Hickory convention center is only a short 50 miles drove east on I40 from the campground where Alumalina is being held.

Typically most of the major woodworking equipment and accessories suppliers (Powermatic, Jet, Rikon, Laguna, Festool, Kreg, SawStop, Tormek, Nova, Earlex, Fein, Woodpecker, DeWalt, Bosch, and many more) show equipment and demo at this large and well attended event. Local and regional woodworking clubs also demo as well as "name" woodworkers. A few hardwood suppliers also exhibit. It is a large show and very well attended. Definitely worth seeing if you are a serious woodworking hobbyist or professional.

Dates for the 2018 Klingspor Woodworking Extravaganza have not yet been announced but the website is up. If the show is held the same weekend as Alumalina, it is best to plan to see it Friday mornings when the crowds are smaller.

A link to the woodworking show website appears below. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the list of typical exhibitors as well as links to the types of demonstrations and exhibits at previous shows.

Thanks FL 55 ... I m so, so excited! I’ll probably go ... my dream is to outfit my hobby shop as a woodworkers haven — my Dad was a Tool-and-Die Maker!

Having to cancel last minute last year after faithfully finding a way to attend for years is rejuvenating. The black and whites have already caught a few stray possums wandering the pasture and I'll have to build extra coops. No worries, they have gentle mouths, are expertly trained, and no damage was done so please no ASPCA reports. It should be a bountiful crop this year after such a warm winter. Count us in - Dave & Susan!

Wow!!!

This thread is moving faster than my 2 fingers can type. I have answers to all your questions, but might take me a day or two.

My paper count (I love pencil and paper) shows 72 rigs as of tonight, so we are off to a fabulous start. I will get the list posted ASAP so we can all monitor and work it together.

With 300 full hook ups, and another 100 water/electric, we will have top shelf accommodations for everyone. No boondocking, no power outages (I hope), and all conveniences a short drive away. Should also be a spectacular leaf show. It would be a super thrill to fill the place up.

I know for sure there is no problem with coming early, so come on. I will check on the exact procedure and report back. With the Blue Ridge Park Way and Mt. Mitchell just up the road, plus the City of Marion 4 miles away, and the Catawba river at your back door, this will be a great place to spend some extra time. Bring kayaks, canoes, bikes, walking shoes, and single malt.
