Lonewolf1997, Region 3 Rally you inquired about is the WBCCI rally 4/30/14 to5/4/14 at the W.N.C. Ag. Center near Ashville. I think it's actually in Fletcher, N.C. Went to first Region 3 rally at Myrtle Beach in 2012. There were 331 Airstreams there, about 70% trailers as I recall. Never seen so many silver cans in one place. It was at Ocean Lakes, strictly commercial park, nothing like the state parks with plenty room and shade etc. Not to mention about $60 a night. Ken

John, I counted it three times and still come up with 50. Looks like a sold out event ! Gone need humongus pot for the Possum bog for that many folks. My grand paw use to cook cracklins out doors in a big ole black pot when I was a kid. Seem like it was about 10 or 12 gallon size. We'll have to enlighten our northern guest what cracklins are, southern crackling corn bread and a few chittlins (course that's another menu) have to explain that to. Ken

How 'bout DO cracklins, or DO crackin cornbread??

Never made them myself, just been on the consuming end. Barbara say's I'm like a vacuum cleaner when it comes to food. I saw a detailed account on Google on how to make them, after you get the hair singed off and not burn the house down you got it whupped. Maybe that's why my grand paw cooked them out side. Ken

Alumalina Map Update 12-14-2013

I've been out of town a few days so this is the first chance I've had to update the map showing the full park and current status. Hopefully a few of those black trailers will turn silver over the next few weeks as more Airstreamers fess up.

Nope, John....I don't think your usual pot for possum bog will do it this year.

I have seen big cast iron kettles, which can cook on a tripod over fire or on a frame over propane. Maybe one of your local resources will have one you can borrow.

Then, again, there will be so many people bringing sides that the bog will go farther.

Got about 6" of snow on the ground here this morning. The kiddies will love it.

Wow John sure knows how to set the stage for a great party. I was just reading a thread about how to get the membership up for the wbcci. I think the answer is to put John in charge.

Thanks for working on the updated map. Now I need to figure out how to open it. I keep getting the previous version when I click the link.

Alumalina 2014 Map Update 12-14-2013

Jonathan,

I checked the links out and they seem to be working. Try this direct link:

Alumalina Spring 2014 Map - Lake Wateree Campground Map showing Alumalina Reservations Photo Gallery

Unfortunately there are sometimes "ghosts" from the past that reappear with these Airforums links when they are updated. Let me know if this doesn't work.

Link worked for me. Thanks. And we will have two kayaks with us, available for anyone to use...when we're not in them!

Thanks John. If all goes good will be ordering our new truck to pull the AS.( when we get it). Looking at the 31 Classic. Might be the only person using a M2/106 custom built Freightliner to pull an AS out there.Sould make a good camper untill we can afford to buy the AS.

Thanks for the link. I think I was getting the ghosting image. Sometimes the switch from app to web gets confusing for my tablet (and for me). Really appreciate your help and the hard work to put the map together.

John -

Glad to be of help and I'm happy the map updates were appreciated by a number of people. I'm looking forward to camping at Lake Wateree for the first time and tasting some possum again! Of course it is the great people who make these rallies successful. The good food is just an added bonus.

If there are more changes, I'll try to keep up with them and continue issuing updates.

Thanks for organizing Alumalina and giving us all a chance to get together. With 50 trailers it should be a great time.

I was in Tractor Supply today and they had a 6qt. dutch oven on sale for $19.99 until 29 Dec. It was not Lodge, but may be okay.

Thanks for the tip Hank. They are down to $16 around here. Is that a two possum size?

The dutch oven $19.99 price with 20% discount is $15.99. Bought one this afternoon at the local TS @ Denver NC. One big possum size.

Hank, Thanks for the tip,

How do people feel about bringing something for the raffle, it doesn't need to be expensive, just something related to camping or cooking or happy hour. Any thoughts? Greg & Bonnie

Raffle

I'd be in for a raffle, cash or an item, with 50 units, it would be a blast, if everyone participates. I also like the bring a beer take a beer idea. I will have a table and a tub of ice with my local beers in it. This rally is going to be great! By the way, is someone doing southern fried possum? MPJ

I'm up for it.

Have this blankie made and thought I would tuck it away for the rally when we left next month.

About 1 1/2 yards of fleece, with a crocheted edging, sporting bears and moose upon it.

(Upside down via IPad, of course)

The hat I worked on so hard last year seemed like a good idea at the time......anyone who got something they didn't want or couldn't use could likely find another welcome recipient.
