I am so sorry I couldn't be there with everyone....the fish fry alone is a major draw. BUT, I will be there for the next one. SilverLeaf has had lots of upgrades since I saw all of you last year and I'm going to be looking for some more good ideas! Barry

We meandered northeast toward Brevard and the Davidson River campground yesterday, on the recommendation of very nice and helpful Terry LNU (LastNameUnknown). A lovely campground, thanks!
A rally of equal grandeur is Moraine View in June in central Illinois, for those who might be out and about. Come join us in flyover country!
Take care, y'all, and look forward to seeing you again,
Maggie

Another raving success thanks to John and Susan. I went back Sunday evening to pick up my Overlander, and found there were still quite a few Airstreams in the campground.
Learned a lot.. Huge Thanks to Terry and Marie for lending him out! Got to see a "Parrot Stream", got to hear some phenomenal Accordion music, saw an Airstream like mine polished (you SURE that only took two days, Larry?)...Shoulda' brought more Squirrel meat for the bog (you DID tell everyone, right John??)..Had a Fish Fry Par excellence and generally had a wonderful time!!
Met some newbies, Hey Lonewolf! To everyone, PLEASE don't hesitate to call if you have any insurance questions I can answer for you!
Peace all,
Dave

Recipe for a good rally.....
In a large, open area:
Begin with a generous portion of good, seasoned Southern hospitality.
Add a dash of salty, thick skinned northerners.
Blend in asprinkle of good natured mid-westerners.
Simmer slowly for 3 days in a mixture of good wine, beer, and whisky.
IMPORTANT: do not let the mix run dry. Add more liquids as needed, keep stirring.
At the end of the third day, everyone will be well done.
Thanks everyone, all I did was stir the pot. The rally that came out of it was phenominal, and no one had a better time than I did. Lots of great help.
I have some stats to pass along, hopefully this evening.
John

For those of you who could not attend, we missed you. The food, friends, pets, weather were perfect. Met new friends, renewed with older friends.
It was a fantastic weekend. John and Susan did an outstanding job, all of the volunteers who helped move tables, set up food, and helped out in many ways were appreciated.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for next March and the 3rd annual alumalina! I already requested the time off.
See you there.
Marie

I found this recipe on the internet, but made a few changes to suit me and the tastes of rally attendees, so am renaming it---
Alumalina Carrot Cake Supreme
6 cups shredded carrots, mixed with 1 cup Splenda Brown Sugar. Let stand one hour, stirring occasionally
1 cup raisins, microwaved with 2 tablespoons water to plump. Add to carrot mixture
4 eggs, beaten well
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 cups all-purpose white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
Beat wet ingredients together, mix dry ingredients together, mix together until well blended. Add carrot/sugar/raisin mixture, with their liquids, and mix well. Add nuts.
Pour and spread into two greased and floured 9" cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees 45-50 minutes, until done. Cool on racks.
Split layers to make 4 layers, frost with
Cream Cheese Frosting
2-8 ounce packages light cream cheese, cold
1 stick butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
If you don't want to use Splenda Brown sugar, use 1 cup brown sugar with the carrots and 1 1/2 cups white sugar with the dry ingredients, for 2 1/2 cups total.

A Great Time
Here is what I have:
34 rigs
68 people
2 rigs from Rhode Island
1 ILLONOIS
2 Georgia
1 Pennsylvania
1 Virginia
27 from the Carolinas
23 first timers.....a big shout out to the Carolinians for a strong turnout
5 possums (the 6th one got away)
72 deviled crabs
30 lbs fish
about a ton of slaw, hush puppies and french fries.
Go ahead and block off for next year. Very likely same place, nearly the same time. Please keep the Alumalina thread on your subscription list. AND keep an eye out for a Fall Edition, I have a couple of ideas.
Thank you all for coming and for all the help. People make the rallys, you folks are the greatest. We will keep this thread open for a while so please chime in.
John

We want to thank John and Susan for being the best host and hostess ever. You so unselfishly gave of your time to make sure that everyone else was having a blast. You two are the epitome of Southern hospitality. What a great way to enjoy a Spring weekend.
It was great seeing old friends and making new ones. Already looking forward to next year.

Augie and I got back home to Edisto this afternoon. We wanted to thank everyone for the great hospitality you provided to two newcomers. The rally was absolutely great and the food was tasty and plentiful! Thanks, John, for all your hard work putting everything together and thanks to Terry for the lessons--I used one of them this morning when I was leaving. Being a new Airstreamer I can say that you folks really know how to put on a good time and to make people feel welcome! It would be hard to top this rally. And I hope next time I'll have my better half along.

Almost home. This scene of our final night, tonight, in our Bambi is VERY pretty (Croton-on-Hudson), but oh, what's the song? Something about being happy if I could be in Carolina in the morning? What a time you Carolinians gave us. We will be forever grateful, and we are thinking of that 70-degree weather on Saturday!

We are in a ho-hum, so-so PA csmpground east of Paducah, KY.
Home tomorrow, will have to drop some antifreeze into our tanks as night temperatures will be in the teens.
