4th Annual Air Forums Mid-West Fall Rally Oct 6-9, 2023

This year we will be back at Thomson Causeway in Thomson Illinois. This is a great Army Corp of Engineers campground. It is located on the Mississippi River with water views from nearly every site. Each site has electric, with plenty of water pumps for filling your tanks. There are also dump facilities on site. This campground has many activities close by;
-Field of Dreams in Dyersville Iowa
-town of Clinton Iowa
-antiquing and shopping in Galena Illinois
-more shopping and restaurants
I was thinking we could have a pot luck on Saturday evening, and a movie on Sunday evening. I look forward to seeing everyone! Please leave me your site info so that I can keep a tally.

Just finished making my reservation for arrival on Thursday, October 5 with Departure on Tuesday, October 10. Have reserved site 51. It is too early for me to know whether I will be traveling alone or which trailer I will be towing, but I am certainly looking forward to getting out to Northwest Illinois and Southwest Wisconsin.

I don't know whether they would have room for us on short notice, and the cost would be greater per night, but the Rustic Barn Camp Ground and RV Park in Kieler, WI is nearby and has a beautiful facility. I have stayed there frequently on my way to and from International Rallies in the Western states. I lived nearby in Livingston, Wisconsin for over seven years.

When thinking of options should the Army Corps of Engineers site become unavailable due to government shutdown, my memory of Unit Rallies at Wisconsin county fairgrounds reminded me to check to see what I could learn. Some other possibilities with a greater likelihood of availability and with prices closer to that of the Army Corps of Engineers site would include most of the county fairgrounds that have campgrounds in Southern Wisconsin. There are several in the area where I lived (Southwest Corner near Galena, IL) that open their fairgrounds to the public when they do not have events scheduled for the fairgrounds.

These possibilities would include:

The Grant County Fairgrounds in Lancaster, Wisconsin
The Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point, Wisconsin
The Lafayette County Fairgrounds in Darlington, Wisconsin
The Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe, Wisconsin

Most of these sites are on grass with water and electric -- some even have 50-AMP. Dump facilities are usually available on-site as well. Generally, the fee is from $20 to no more than $30 per night from what I have been able to learn from various web sources. All four of these counties are in the lower two tiers of counties in the Soutwest corner of the state.

I have finally reached the Army Corp about the shutdown. I was told they are being kept in “limbo”. They are having a staff meeting today at 3PM to discuss what’s going on. They affirmed that they will call me after their meeting to discuss what’s going on. Stand by for more updates? Curtis
