2024 AirForums Moraine View Rally
Hi everyone! We are back for year 22 of this rally and our dates are set for June 7-9 2024. The park will accept your reservations at this point and we will be at the sites along the lake area in the Gander Bay Campground section in the park.
Most of us reserve in the F1-F9 sites, and the P11-23 sites. Some also reserve in the E sites which are also very close to the other sites. While it's early to reserve at this point, understand you can cancel and will get a refund minus the initial $5 reservation fee.
Note you do not have to be an owner of an Airstream product to attend.
Many folks attending might be the thinking of purchasing an Airstream in the future, or are just interested in coming to this event. You do not have to be a forum member or belong to the Wally Byam Airstream Club.
https://dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.moraineview.html
For reservations and further campsite information go to this link.
https://dnr.illinois.gov/parks/camp/...raineview.html
As far as activities go, the rally is very informal and has followed the same format over the years. I'm still planning the free hot dog fest on Friday at my site P21 at about 5 pm. I'll be providing the cooked hot dogs, toppings and buns. I also have napkins, paper plates, and plastic utensils. If anyone has chips or other things to share, you are welcome to bring them. Bing your own drinks and lawn chairs to sit around at my site if you wish.
On Saturday from noon till 3pm, we will have trailer tours for those who would like to participate. You do not have to open your trailer for visitors if you wish. Our idea has been to give everyone a chance to show off their camping unit. Some of us have rehabs, new, or unique vehicles
We plan to do a pot luck meal on Saturday scheduled at 5 pm in a gathered seating area with tables located in the middle of the F loop. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a side dish that you can stare with others. Your main meal course is your choice however you would not be sharing that with other attendees. Sides can be a appetizers, salads, vegetables, starches or deserts. Note hat serving will start at 5 pm so make sure your food is ready at that time. We will be borrowing the picnic tables from many of your sites to accommodate the food and eating tables for the attendees. We will return your tables to your sites once we begin the preparation for our outdoor movie in the area where we have eaten dinner.
We also have a movie outside on Saturday night starting at dusk. Bring your lawn chairs for seating.
Note that many attendees arrive prior to Friday so feel free to reserve extra days prior to the rally or after, if you choose to stay later. Most attendees will leave on Sunday. Check out is 3:00 PM.
Note Illinois state recreation facilities do prohibit open alcohol consumption in the parks. Park Rangers have police authority and can issue tickets to those observed by them consuming alcohol outdoors.
The park has excellent biking/walking trails, swimming in the lake, and a lunch style eating facility, bath house and store. The campground is just a few miles from LeRoy Illinois where you will find restaurants, stores, gas stations, and a hardware store for supplies if you need them. Please note the sites are electric only so you will need to have your fresh water tank full. If you fill with campground water please use a filter since the water supply there has had sedimentation in the past. The water supply is available at the dump station which is located near the entry to the park. Note that we have a fresh water outlet in the F loop but again use a filter if you need water from that outlet. Bring your own trash bags and note there is no trash pickup at your sites. The trash bins are located at the entry/check in to the Gander Bay camping area. Wood is available for campfires at the Gander Bay check in area. Each site has a very nice fire pit.
So come and meet your fellow forum members. Ask questions if you are first time visitors to this rally. If you have a new Airstream you will find a lot of experience from others here so feel free to talk to anyone. We can get you answers if you have problems and can direct you to some one who may have the answer you are looking for.
Again please be sure to reserve your site since the area fills fast. There are open unreserved sites at the campground too. There usually are plenty of those sites available as late as Thursday. Once you obtain a reservation, post your Forums name and your site you are staying in. I'll maintain a separate post that will contain the names and site information of those attending. Also I'll maintain another post to let me know what dish you are bringing to the Saturday Pot Luck Dinner. This way we won't get a bunch of folks all bringing the same side dish.
Any questions please post them. I'll be glad to follow up in this thread.
Jack

Jack,
We have P17 this year. We haven't been to the event since 2017, but are looking forward to it again. See everyone there!

Jack; you might want to check the site. I posted for Dana and me but it doesn't show in replies. There might be other posts that are missing.

Mike, I did see that post and changed the second post in the thread to reflect your attendance. Any reply that is identification of a site occupied is reflected in that second post. Any response that is just a confirmation of a site, is being removed after I have updated the attendance list. If there is other information within the same post I will leave that original post stand. It makes a little cleaner reading. So watch post #2. That will always be the post with the current attendance.

With regrets, Mount'n Man (Brian, Jo Ann and crew) will be out west on the tail end of the Springtime in the Rockies Airstream caravan. First time we've missed Moraine View in a long, long time! Someone else will have to make (or buy) the ice cream this year! Y'all have fun!!

I see we have additional reservations based on the park site availability app. If you don't see your name in the second post of this thread, please let me know along with the site you have taken. You can post that info in this thread, or you can Private message me! Thanks!

Moraine View
We too met all of you by serendipity at Thomson Causeway last fall. We are attending and will be in site E13, just basically across from the loop. Looking forward to learning more from all of your experiences!

Hello fellow Rallyers.
I look forward to seeing y’all in June! I hope that some of you will join us for a Rally in Harvard Illinois on April 12. It’s the Rivet-Life Rush Creek Rally. If I miss you there, I will see you at Moraine View.

I neglected to mention that we'll be in on the Weds the 5th and leave on Mon. the 10th. Laurie finally retired in January, so we don't have a work schedule to keep!

talk about going to "hell in a hand basket"; this is too much. We were hoping to see Laurie, but......
we will do our best with being so close and for so long .
Glad to see you are going to be there.

We're in!
My wife and I will be there in what will likely be our 2nd trip ever in our '75 Argosy we picked up last month. Be gentle!
