Jack & gang: Sorry we will not be able to join you this year. It sounds like another fun weekend. We are in PA for another month working on a construction project. We've been here for 1 month so far and enjoying staying in the AS. Here is a picture that I just took a couple nights ago at sunset. Beautiful country here.
Hope to make it to the rally next year.

Well for some us we are a week or less before we arrive at Moraine View. Weather initially looks reasonable. I do see showers on Friday but good weather on Saturday. At this point remember that in conjunction with our "Goin' to the Dogs" theme, we will be doing hot dogs over at our site Friday afternoon. I'll start grilling them around 4:30 or so. I'll serve 'um till they are gone. Everyone drive safe, watch your speeds, Illinois fuel ain't cheap!
All of the sites are back in. There will be enough of us around after dark to help guide you in if you want help. Make sure you come in with full water tanks and empty grey and black. There are two disposal stations. One just after you get into the park and another at the end of our loop next to the registration area. There are a couple of fresh water spigots that we can stretch hoses to in case you run short.
Those of you not having reservations can still come, provided you get there Thursday evening or earlier Friday and claim one of the first come first served sites.
I'll be getting around to everyone to provide you a weekend newsletter and agenda. Open house starts at noon Saturday.
Remember Illinois State Parks are alcohol free, so no beer, wine etc. in open view. You will get ticketed if they catch you.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Jack

Jack, please put us down for stacked enchiladas for Saturday night. In Minnesotan? Okay, it's chili hotdish.
Remember everyone with dogs -- you've got to get them all froofed up in their best buttons and bows for the movie Saturday night! Don't know who to cheer for more? Parker Posey or Fred Willard. Dey wuz robbed at the Academy Awards!!
We're outta here -- taking the long Moraine View detour via Kentucky. I should be checking in if they hain't kicked Starbucks outta the state (and hoping that Verizon gets my PC card logged in by tomorrow).

we're almost ready
We are almost ready... it's been a loooong winter after Gary hurting himself, that swan dive off the roof and a shattered foot really set us back....but he's walking; the truck's leaf spring is fixed, we have brand new tires.. and ...
I FINALLY ordered new locker latches from a certain AS dealer in California.
I TRY not to order from there but there was no where else that sells them.. and now I remember WHY I try to shop elsewhere.... I got charged EIGHTEEN BUCKS SHIPPING for a small box of plastic latches.

Put the RedSHED s down for Zucchini Bread, Saurkraut for the dogs (people food, not the canines) and maybe some veggies. We'll see. Looking forward to meeting all!

Just an FYI. The hot dogs are going to be served on Friday late afternoon and aren't part of the Saturday pot luck.

2008 Moraine View Rally
I just returned from a NewBeetle.org Forms rally in Pontiac, IL. We were about 70 miles North/North West of LeRoy. Hopefully we won't experience the same weather excitement next week that we had for the New Beetle Rally. A little more than 30 minutes before our rally ended, we learned of a Tornado Warning for Livingston county (Pontiac is the county seat of Livingston county). The weather for the balance of the afternoon was rocky. My camera decided to take a vacation, but the photos below are of what we witnessed taken by other members of the New Beetle rally near the I-55 on-ramp at Dwight, IL:

Rest assured, Kevin, that Jack has made all of the necessary arrangements to ensure a picture-perfect weather weekend for Moraine View. He has a special dispensation to handle matters of that magnitude.
By the way, for all you doubters in the crowd, we're planning on bringing the Bigfoot this year and towing it with the little Born Free moho. Bring your cameras!

Cool pictures Kevin. Garrison Keeler on Prairie Home Companion was rambling on last night about the great storms we have here in the Midwest and how they make us better people.
With the rain falling, tornados dropping out of the sky, I-57 closed due to power lines that have reportedly been blown across the road, a lot of stuffs been coming down.
But some things have gone up since last year. Fuel, food and, oh yea, Camping Fees. Look for the "Notification of Fee Increase" showing up in your mailbox.
Well, its a small price to pay to get together with the group. But you think they could have grand-fathered us in.
Oh well. I guess were better people for it.
Rolling in on Thursday,
Tom.

Haven't received any notification on my side yet.....but based on the updated reservation form, it does look like the rate went up from $15 to $20 a day. Considering we've paid the same rate for the past 5 years, it's not surprising that we would eventually get hit with an increase. Most state parks receive minimal funding so it's probably needed.
Let's hope this weather breaks. We dodged funnel clouds here Friday afternoon. The jet stream has parked two jets over the midwest with the collision point being right over Missouri and Illinois. At this early time there are some forecasts for rain on Friday but Saturday looks okay. Just don't leave that awning down overnight unless you are ready to batten down the hatches in the early am.

It is with great regret that we have decided to cancel. What with all the rain and more coming, it would be just too difficult to get around with the wheelchair. A-6, right in the center of the action, is available.

Rog, I haven't talked about that but for those of you who have things to trade or to sell, you can put those out Saturday during the tours.

A06 is right next to the area where we will do the pot luck and movies. If there isn't anyone who has held off coming at this point, one of you out on the far reaches of the sites might consider trading sites.
Jim sorry you can't make it. Are you still holding the reservation? If so I assume that folks can contact you regarding taking your site.

Weather
I've just checked the Accuweather site, which I tend to believe a little more than weather.com.
The latest forecast is a 50% chance of thunderstorms on Thursday night. Friday day 25% chance of thunderstorms, lowering to 13% Friday night. So we should be good for hot dogs!
Saturday looks like we should be on the northern side of a cool front with a high of 83 with only a 16% chance of showers. Saturday night shows a 17% chance of showers with a low of 62. Sunday is sunny and a high of 84.
At this point once we get through Thursday night, we should probably find that the weekend will be a good one. Cross your fingers at this point, it's still a little to early to hang your hat on this forecast but it's looking positive.

Martha, you're new to Moraine View. Hope you've noted that identifiable adult beverage containers cannot be anywhere in sight. For all the times I've seen such notices in some parks, Moraine View is the one place that enforces it with big fines. Haven't seen them confiscate an Airstream yet. So everyone bring yer peel-off RC cola stickers.

Just as an update eikel1we who is in A9 had to cancel due to an illness in the family. For those of you who know them, this is Sue and Ike from Michigan. At this point we have confirmed the following sites are open and available. If you want to call and switch, do it now! If you have been thinking about coming this is your opportunity. Open sites as of 4:08 PM today. P30, P31. A06, and A09. Let me know if you pick up these sites.

Jack,
Jerry and I have found ourselves unexpectedly free for the weekend and would love to join the rally. I will contact the campground tomorrow morning and see what space we can get.
ON EDIT: Or do we do reserve another way?? Please advise.
I haven't read all the posts, so if there are some I should read to learn about the activities, pot lucks, etc, let me know.
We are excited to meet AS folks in the Midwest.
Regards,
Caryl
