Hello everyone and thanks for helping to create such a grand rally. To make it even grander for us, we came home to a brand new granddaughter! We were overnighting at Tombigbee State Park outside Tupelo, MS, on our way home last night when the phone rang at 2 am. Yikes! Do you all know what those 2 am calls do to you??? Anyway, it was our son (yes, the same one who headed out beyond Denver during the first blizzard this winter for skiing) saying they were headed to the hospital, 2 weeks early. We drove as quickly and safely as we could, but she was born at 2 pm this afternoon and we got to hold her finally at 8:30 tonight. What an incredible ending to a great rally week! Just had to share this "happy" with new forum friends~G

It was worth traveling 1422 miles.
I tried to leave NY on New Years day but the weather was hard rain and gale force winds.
Waited till 1 AM Tuesday drove to NJ to get over the bridge and avoid the traffic getting off Long Island.
The trailer wasn’t riding right it was nose high in fact the frame scraped a bit leaving a gas stop.
I found a trailer parts place in lower NJ and bought ( $170) longer drop bar that leveled it out pretty nice.
Not being used to towing I was doing about 60mph in NJ Del MD then by VA was doing 65-70.
With the 8.1 in tow mode and cruise control I was getting 10.8 – 11 MPG with a ton of power.
Real happy with the 2500HD and the 6 speed Allison trany.
Stopped in NC woke up to 29 degrees , needed to get south……….arrived at Topsail Wed nite about 9PM
---------------------------------------
We had a great time, even though some thought I was spending tooo much time working on my trailer.
It was not only our first trip with the AS it was our first rally.
Was most impressed by the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
The food and camaraderie was great, look forward to meeting all of you and others at the next rally.
We took a 6 hour trip to Crushed Canyon north of Tampa, nice place great spa. Headed to the keys on Saturday, then home.
Special thanks goes to Phil Gobie, Ron, raptorron the Dyna Bead expert ( he helped put ‘em in) Herb, jbond Greg, ptrvr and Ted, Klattu for the drill.
Bob & Cathy
PS: we are now proud owners of a set of Original Flamingos we won

Congrads Max and Georgia what a great way to wrap up the rally! I can't believe we had so much fun count us in for next year, just let me know the dates. Austin is still talking about all the trailers he got to view.

Way to go Max and Georgia! At my young age (in my mind anyway), I have 2 granddaughters, 6 and 1. Never understood the excitement until the first one came along.
Hey Lipets, did you ride in the trailer to check on the Dynabeads ? No kidding, could you feel any difference?

I'll try to get some scaled back in size at lunch and post them if I have time today. If not, I'll see what I can do tonight. I didn't take many so it shouldn't take long.
And congratulations on the new grandchild! That's one way to beat post-rally depression!

Congratulations Max and Georgia on the new little grandbaby.
And Lipets, I'm glad you won the Featherstone flamingoes. They'll look cool in front of your rig.

Great Rally!
We arrived safely home about 4:00 p.m. yesterday after overnighting in a relatives driveway in Jacksonville, FL. We would have posted sooner, but after we unloaded and put the trailer away it was time for the game. Go Gators!
We had a great time seeing how the area had changed since we lived there 30 years ago, and meeting all you wonderful people. We will definitely be at the next one.
Thanks again Steve (Devoman) for pulling this together--well done!

Hey, Phil and/or Sue, remember how your table ended up in Chattanooga after the October rally at Hiawassee? Guess what . . . its back in Chattanooga again. It must really like it here. Spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at Kathy's and now wintering over at Dacia's. Now you've GOT to come to the April Georgia Springstream to reunite with it!
Now where's my table . . . . I should have put those labels on it.

Sounds Like a Great Time!
The Can Opener Rally was certainly a great success! And I wish we had been there. There's no denying the dates seemed to work for many people but we were not able to attend since it fell just outside the new year break. If the 2008 dates include the weekend preceeding new year we will likely make it.
Until then, we are considering camping in February/March time frame, and again at the Hiawassee/North GA rally in April. I love camping and I particularly love it in an AS! I'm trying to figure out how to work in camping at least once a month. I know some do more, including full-timing, but we have to work up to that.

We also had a great time meeting everyone. We got Lucy home safely after the gueling 3 mile trip back to the house. We hope to see everyone again real soon. Congrats to Max & Georgia on the new grandbaby. What a way to end a successful rally!

Hi, Dacia. I picked up two tables at the site Sunday afternoon. I thought they were both mine (I know the card table is, since I wrote our name on it). I will look at the other table again, since I thought I had left a metal table last year but ended up with a table with a wood-grained top with many cuts in the top . Maybe that's yours... Did you bring/take a table for Sat eve pot-luck? I do plan on Hiawasse in April though.

Not sure what happened, I had three tables, but one I picked up Saturday night has your name on it. Yes, it has cuts on top, that's what made me look since mine didn't but was the identical type of table. Aluminum legs and trim with woodgrain pressboard top. We'll sort it out in Hiawassee.

I was thinking about the dates for the Rally last night. If next year's Rally is held the last week end in December this year, it won't be the Florida Can Opener. That name was given because we were opening the camping season of the new year. If we have the Rally the last week end in December, we will be closing the camping season of the old year. May be semantics but it will be hard to explain to new comers.
I know you can't accommodate everyone, but we do have a lot going on in December so the last weekend in December would be hard for us and we enjoyed this rally so much. I know there are a lot of people that would have liked to come that had conflicts with work, but my wife is a teacher and had to be at school the Wednesday through Friday of the week before this year's rally so if it is important we can all make arrangements to be there. However, back to the dates and names. I think if it is held the last weekend in December we may have to call it the Florida Can Closer or Florida Can Sealer or Florida Winterizer or something. I have no problems with a name change, but it's something that may not have been thought of before.
Just my thoughts.

I knd of agree. The week between Christmas and New years is pretty busy for most folks. I don't know if we would get as large a group if we moved it back into December.

Dates
I'm with you guys. I'd love to have it the weekend that has the MLK holiday on the following Monday because that is a banking holiday, but we can't accomodate everyone. Personally, I'll bet a Coke that if it is the same weekend every year, the attendance will grow. Everyone had a lot of fun in a great park. That fun has been well publicized here, meaning more folks will want to come. Just my 2 cents worth.
Seems funny that I attneded the Can Opener, the opening of camping for 2007, yet I just winterized last night and put the AS to bed for a while!

Guess I should have done this with the other post. Keeping the Can Opener on the same weekend in 2008, the dates would be Friday, January 4th through Sunday January 6th. I'm ready to make reservations .
