Our RV history...
My wife grew up in Augusta, GA but her parents are from Minnesota and every summer they would take a two week camping trip using their pop-up tent camper to visit family in the twin cities area. Each year they would take a different route to see different parts of the country. They also had relatives in Denver, so some years they would visit them, too.
My family had a pop-up tent camper also and we camped all over the southeast and during the second half of the 1960’s my grandmother lived in California so in 1969 we took a three week vacation to visit her. That trip included a stop in to see Disneyland. Eventually, my parents traded the pop-up for a motor home, but we didn’t use it as much since my sister and I were in our teens and were no longer interested in family vacations so my parents sold it after about a year.
A couple of years ago one of my employee’s brothers-in-law had an Airstream that he was considering selling. I thought I would buy it, but after finding this forum and doing research, I decided I would be better off buying new. So we patiently waited for the introduction of the 30’ Safari Bunk in the SE package only to find out that the model was canceled this spring. We found an ’06 with the main features we wanted and had the dealer install a couple of extra fantastic fans and roadside and rear awnings and pretty much had the Airstream of our dreams.
We took delivery of our “Changes in Latitudes” over Memorial Day Weekend and have enjoyed 8 weekend camping trips over the summer so far. Our most favored camp ground has naturally been Ft. Wilderness (two trips so far) at Disney World…after all, we are Disney fanatics. Our second favorite has been FDR State Park in Warm Springs, GA. Third would be Falls Creek Falls in TN.
Our dream trip will be taking our two boys, current ages 6 & 9, to the Grand Canyon and taking the mule train down into the Canyon. Perhaps this trip would include going on to the Las Vegas area and perhaps Southern California to visit Mickey’s home town. This will be a couple of more years down the line when our younger son is old enough to remember the trip as he gets older. Future years would see Yellow Stone and the Rockies and eventually Yosemite.

Oh, I just remembered, I think all of the sites are 50 amp so you will want to confirm and get a 50-30 amp converter before you get there. I would imagine there would be a run on them if we all wait 'till we get there to buy one at the check-in office.

Going south, you might consider taking Hyway 100 out of Gainesville To hiway 19 and plan a stopover at Salt Spring National Forest Campground. Very Nice.

I was going to recommend this park also. I saw a really nice segment on RV Today that made it really look nice. But I didn't know if you wanted to go up the west coast of the FL pennesula or start back up the east coast.
BTW, it is practically on the beach with many sites that have ocean views, but I would imagine they are hard to get in early January as this is the beginning of their peak season. I do believe they do limit stays to two weeks though so you might could reserve on anyway.

I made my reservation by phone while looking at the web site and only 50 A was showing on the web site and the reservationist said I would need an adapter. I just assumed she knew what she was talking about. Silly me. I'd never seen a 50 A without a 30 A but I have seen 30 A without a 50 A.

well, i guess it's my turn on the ol Airstreamers Anonymous podium...
my grandparents had a 31 footer when i was a kid, and took my cousin and me on trips every summer. 2 cross country trips over the summer, a couple of runs up to michigan, and every other year, 2 weeks at lake hartwell where i learned to ski!
so i fit neatly into that "recapturing his childhood memories" box. last spring i bought my first airstream. a 1959 Traveller (18 footer). MAJOR project. i've been working on it off and on for the better part of 18 months now. having a baby has slowed me down just a tad, but NO REGRETS! . you may have read my restoration post here:
http://www.airforums.com/forum...ent-17197.html
i just got the front aluminum end cap in today, in fact!
anyway, i digress... around the time bethany was born (just before or just after, i can't remember... musta had a lot on my mind!) i bought our 1964 Trade Wind, as a "campable" camper while i finished the Traveller. well, as many of us all know, there's hardly such a thing as a project-free vintage airstream. so, the next thing you know, i'm spending the weekends on it, replacing and refinishing cabinet parts, replumbing, replacing the laminate, new curtains, new water heater, new axle, new wheels and tires, new AC, Zip Dee awning, new paint, new water heater, fixtures, etc... and the list goes on and on... i wanted a trouble-free trailer, and short of having the bathroom left to do, she's basically as finished as she's going to get. time to enjoy her. we named this one "SHotgun" after the shotgun blast in one panel. had to leave it! adds character!
since then, julie, bethy, myself and the 2 dogs have gone on at least a dozen trips this year, encompassing 5 states. florida will be #6. we can't wait! i really wanted bethy to enjoy camping as much as i did as a kid... so, now i fit neatly into that "try to give your kid everything you loved as a kid" box.
since then, i bought another hunk of junk AS to restore... yes... i'm insane! don't need to label THAT box!
sorry this is so long! see you guys in january!

Thanks Devoman
This thread and the rally certainly has grown since your first suggestion of a Florida get together. Just wanted to thank your for the initiative of suggesting a rally, you can never tell how far an idea will grow and it's still 7 weeks off. For Cyndi and I, it breaks up those post holiday blues and extends the holiday feeling a little longer, which we're all for. Hope more will join the anticipated good times.

All right Maverick9! We'll be neighbors with ours in #141. My Mom will be with me and her American Mixed Breed, Sonya. We are still taking guesses as to what mixed-up breed she is. We will be honored to be abreast with a Quicksilver, cool. BTW, we're originally from Delray Beach, FL, just down the road from you in Vero.

hello, I'm new here and I was wondering what the details of this get-together are. Could someone update the details so I don't have to go thru 22 pages of posts?
Thanks,
Baron
