Working with LP ( newbie) safety question...

I have installed a new water heater, stove as well as added a feed for a space heater ( installed additional shutoff valves for the stove and heater lines.) I'm testing the gas lines and it appears all connections are solid ( no bubbles ) I see suds collecting where the liquid settles in the connection, but no bubbles being formed. Is there another step or should I consider this a thorough enough test?

That's all the propane supplier used as a test for our residential hook up.

You can use a product called "snoop" which is available sometimes at the HD or Lowe's but all it is is a soap solution. Might be slightly better but just detergent and water in a spray bottle is all I use.

One of the annual tests that I do is to pressurize the system. Light a burner and then turn it off. Then I turn off the gas bottles. I come back in a couple of hours and with the bottles still turned off, I relight the burner. If it starts with a good flame, I know the system is holding pressure. If you had a leak, the burner may not light or just barely light.

I use windex sprayed on all connections. I know it works because it REALLY foamed up once when I had a leak.

My plumbers always use some fluorescent dye that bubbles, I'm guessing for visibility. But I would think no bubbles = no leaks.

A snoop test is the standard test method. Much better than using a cigarette lighter.

Just rinse off the 'soapy' stuff when done.. not absolutely necessary, but that way you shouldn't have it streaking down the side of the AS..

After doing the soap test you can also use a propane level gauge (it works by pressure) such as in the picture sold at costco, I take mine off my BBQ , and it mounts no tools needed on your propane tank between the tank and supply line for the trailer (inline) all you have to do is make sure all appliances are off and mount the gauge open your propane tank for a few seconds and watch the gauge go up then turn off the valve on the propane tank and the gauge should read steady ,note the reading and recheck it 1 hour later and it should read about the same not drop ( that means you have no major leak pressure held you can do the same test longer if you want to check for smaller leaks ,but remember it's a pressure gauge and if temperature goes up pressure goes up if temperature drops pressure will drop so it's best to do this test when temperature is constant for a more accurate test.
