Testing regulator auto switch over

Is there a simple way to test the red flag indicator on the gas regulator?

I thought I could just light a burner and turn the service tank off thinking it would set the indicator and pull from the second tank. But it did not work that way. The burner kept working but no indicator.

I had my regulator inspected by a gas service company and it was ok then. It's the original.

Tim,

The way you did it is the way to test it, but the question is: how long did you wait? The cook top is not a high demand appliance. The regulator steps the propane pressure down from high pressure to approx 3 PSI if you have the water heater lit and do the test you should see action in less than 5 Min.

Be sure to have the arrow pointing toward the tank you are about to turn off.
