Question Stripping Aluminum Tanks

After discovering my 30# Argosy tanks are aluminum I want to strip the old paint off, buff, and clear coat them before I put in new OPD valves.

The local gas company says they will re-cert them for free when filling.

What is the safest and best way to strip these when empty??

Aircraft paint stripper will remove it easy! I would pick up 2 spray cans of the stuff and spray it on, wait and hose it off.

I would wait - the techs may not be too gentle...

These guys are locals and said they'd just look it over and stamp it.

I was hoping to work on them empty......

Polish them - but save clear coating until after stamping?
