Running propane lines

I guess I should have asked this BEFORE I spent all day running propane lines under the trailer.

I recently had my leaf spring axles swapped over to torsion. I have enough clearence to run my 1/2" copper main feed down the center of the trailer above the axle beams with less then 1/8" clearence. They are tied up and not touching it.

Now the question. The axle beam should not move up and down releative to the trailer, right? Am I in danger of smashing my lines while going down the road?

Like I said, I should have asked before... its all done now .

I did not have a nice enough pipe bender to go under the axles, thats why I went over.

I think you should also be concerned about the floor flexing and squishing the tube from above.

Run a piece of steel on either side of the tube where it crosses the axle to keep it from getting squashed.

Second thoughts. The floor might flex more than 1/8", but it would be between the crossmembers and there is nothing to squish the tube against except the belly pan skin.

If the tube crosses the axle tube where there is a crossmember, it is unlikely the floor would flex enough to squash the tube.

Will the axle tube bend 1/8"? I don't know.

Use black pipe for the main truck line, never worry about it.

Don't worry, this is a stock arrangement in some AS out there. I know some people put a slice of rubber hose around them just to save them from potiental shafing, but you should be fine. That axle beam does not move.

A sleeve made out of rubber hose or PVC is
f you can get it slipped over. FWIW mine run between the axle and the belly pan on my '75 and '80. Mine are original and all copper. I plan to run all new lines just because. Don't want to use the black pipe, I have had problems with them cracking at the threads and fittings on an SOB before.

I would not sleeve a copper gas line. You are creating a sitation where water can be trapped and cause the line to corrode and eventually leak.
