Propane Usage Report

Many have asked how long a bottle or two of propane will last, camping in their Airstreams. We all have responded with facts and figures on BTU capacities of various size bottles and BTU usage of various appliances.

Here is my report on ACTUAL usage. I have been living in my Airstream since 1/25, here in North Central Florida. I got 9 days out of my first 30# bottle. A hot shower a day, cooking one meal a day, doing the dishes and running the furnace. Night time temps as low as 26 one night, most in the 40's and 50's. The next bottle lasted 17 days, as the nights were warmer. I leave the stove pilot and water heater pilot on all the time.

Before I left Ohio, I was able to fill at Flying J, of $1.34 a gallon. Down here in Florida, the best place to fill is JD Sanders, an Airstream dealer for $15.90, per 30# bottle.

That sounds about right. Propane use in the winter (obviously) depends a lot on ambient temperatures. In the middle of winter up here (darned cold, near the ski area), most usual TTs and 5th wheels go through a 30lb/7 gal bottle every two or two and a half days, on average. We encourage them to use their propane heaters as much as possible to keep their tanks from freezing, so we're not talking about people who use electric heaters much.

Thanks for the report.

I am finding out that during cold days, and nights, it gets depleted quickly. Cold meaning 20's and even high teens.
I had to leave for a few days and did not want things to freeze, so I left the furnace on full time. I am not sure how many days 2 tanks lasted but it surely uses LP.
