Propane tank gauge wiring broken off

Does anyone know how to remove the black cap that covers the wires coming from the propane tank gauge? The wire from the gauge to the monitor inside the Airstream broke off and I need got reattach it. I included a photo that might help explain what I am talking about. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I expect you will have to cut away a section then solder on a new wire then fill it with epoxy to protect it from moisture. You might be better off getting a new sensor if you can find one.
