Propane Tank Cover Rubs
Our 2023 25FBT International came with the aluminum cover over both tanks.
It is sandwiched between the tongue jack and the tanks, rubbing on both. Is this normal? There was a piece of rubber stuck to the back side of the jack I guess to keep it from rattling.
Only fix that I see to space things out a little would require welding...don't want to do that...Ideas?

Ours is exactly the same. I keep some extra rubber weatherstrip in case the existing strip comes off. Lack of attention to detail from Airstream.

Our 2002 came new with a manual jack which has always rubbed on the aluminum propane-tank cover. The cover is a snug fit over the tanks.
So, if it is lack of attention to detail, it has gone on for at least 21 years. I suggest it is planned to be that way.

Yep, that's often the norm. I've seen some older models with more clearance.
I just replaced our jack. Many here like the Husky Super Brute, but I opted for the Stromberg Carlson 4500.
If yours is the Barker VIP 3500, you can turn the head sideways, but I don't know if that gains clearance or not. Some jacks allow you to turn the entire jack, they have double sets of holes in the jack flange. Other folks on here have marked off and drilled holes in order to turn the jack....primary reason being clearance to get the tailgate down on the truck.

Sure appreciate your info. I thought about drilling new holes but there’s a second plate welded to the underside of the frame that the jack run’s thru. Will probably just let it be.
Thanks again.

Turn the jack head sideways switch to the left curb side
On the propane tank cover place a piece of rubber self stick removable Tech Specs padding

I had the same situation with mine. I bought some 6" 3M rubber non-abrasive "Safety-Walk" tape to put on the outside of the take cover behind the jack. I also put it on the inside of the tank cover where the LP tanks were rubbing. It worked so well that I might have gone overboard and put it on the inside of my hatch covers to reduce scratching when moving items in an out. Did it when unit was new and haven't replaced yet.

I found it TOO late, have a hole about the size of a dime in the cover. This was AFTER rotating the jack head. One piece of DUCK TAPE on each side of hole, didn't last

My '86 Sovereign with jack head turned sideways rubs on the cover also. I put a felt pad on the cover where it rides against the back side of the jack and also at the bottom where the cover rides on the frame.
