Propane Sensor Alarm- is set OFF- twice

Our Propane leak sensor is mounted below the clothes closet. It has a green light that glows when it is operating. When tripped... RED.

It woke us up in the middle of the night. You will understand when it goes off. It gets your attention. We smelled NO Propane... and reset the sensor. All was well.

A couple weeks later. Same thing. Geez... and in the middle of the night.

This time we FOUND the problem. Our Blue Heeler would lay on the floor and bump into the unit, tripping the test alarm. She would push against the wall hard enough I had to drop the door and push it back flush.

When it would go off... our Blue Heeler was not sticking around. She looks... innocent.

Problem Solved. If you have a 'mystery Propane Leak Alert'... do you have a pet?

Nancy is taping a plastic bottle cap over the TEST Button. Both problems solved!

Certain types of aerosol sun screen will set them off.

Our ‘stealth’ Pomeranian really enjoys his meals and expresses his appreciation after he eats by loudly belching. Yup, we feed him well away from the propane detector.

Same for mine. I had an ever so slight leak under my gas cooktop. Just needed a slight tightening of a fitting. Could smell any gas but the sensor can pick it up. Gas is heavier than air so it will be lower inside the trailer. That’s the reason where it’s mounted. One way to stop it in the middle of the night and your hooked up to electric is to go outside and turn you gas bottle off.

ALSO, a propane gas detector is only good for 5 years or less. You need to check the date on it.

Open but unlit range top pilot valve can do that too.
