Need some help. I searched and read through a number of posts about the pigtails running from my automatic propane switchover to the 2 30# tanks on my trailer. Still can't find a source. I need a replacement for a Marshal Gas Controls Flexible Hose Model A4 PN HP424, 12 Inches. If anyone knows where I can find this please let me know. From other conversations it sounded like Airstream can't supply them so I didn't really check. Will try tomorrow.
Would appreciate hearing from you. DH

You will not find that exact part number. Since Marshall is now Marshall Excelsior, the numbers changed. No longer USA made.

What you need to know before ordering is the type of connection threads into the regulator (NPT or reversed flare)

The connector nut to the tank is Acme.

When I changed mine I used hoses a couple inches longer than the originals. This made alignment easier when connecting and disconnecting when refilling the tank.

This is the brand I used because they are made in USA. (and Canada) And, they have all of the built in safety features (see video at weblink below)

ps:
The rubber diaphragm inside the regulator has a life limit. If 10 years or more old, time to change

I bought new ones a couple of years ago from an eBay vendor. I had no trouble finding what I needed.

The problem seems to be 1/4 inch flared vs. the stock 3/8 flat connector to the regulator. How did you all manage that? With some sort of adaptor? I haven't seen anything on this yet. Thanks again. DH.

Done. I gave up and went to the 1/4 inch with and adaptor. Finding the right adaptor was a real chore. Most people can't figure out the different types of threads. DH.

Ok, I see you found a solution. I was about to recommend your local 'fireplace shop'; I've had a few projects and they were most helpful.

(Our house is plumbed for propane for the range top, for an outside firepit, and will soon have the fireplace converted.)

Problem I originally had was the 12" replacement hoses were longer than the originals that came with the trailer. That puts a lot of stress on the hose connection to the POL valve. See that bend right by the connection point of the hose to the collar that joins the valve to the hose. I think one of the hoses is leaking based on the stress from the cover touching the hose which isn't long enough too coil. My guess is by going to a 15" hose you can get a proper loop that won't stress the hose connection to the regulator?

Smelled gas tonight around the tanks and found the connected tank was empty with the indicator showing red on the regulator. (I didn't have the other tank valve opened). I've shut down the empty tank valve and opened up the full tank. The regulator indicator showed green. I lit the stove and then turned it off. I turned off both tanks. Tomorrow morning I will try to light the stove and see if it lights. If it does, that means the system is tight. If it's not, my gut will be the hose on that empty tank right at the pigtail connection to the valve threads or the connection to the regulator itself.

Bottom line I think the longer hose will allow a loop in that line and take the stress off that 12" line that is being interfered with by the cover. Curious what size hose most of you have used when replacing the original shorter hoses.

Called my dealership and they said they only carried 12" length hoses, which were the same size that I used as a replacement. They recommended going with a longer length. So I dropped down to a more local RV dealership today and bought 20" hoses. Those defiantly are the sweet spot for my vintage trailer and with the attached pictures you will see that I could loop the hose comfortably with no stress on the couplings and the hoses themselves not touching the tanks or tank cover. Funny the hose that was leaking showed a very pronounced lack of flexibility vs the hose on the other tank. Best practice was to replace them both.

Yup. When the hose is no longer nice and flexible, it’s time to replace them ASAP. The next thing will be a vibration induced crack and leaking propane.

Rubber hoses have a fairly short lifetime. May be able to get 6-8 years but inspection will tell you they are getting old and stuff. Cheap insurance is a new hose.

Being cheap on propane fittings and hoses is a short cut to a leak and possibly a fire. Personally I don’t enjoy front row seats at a rapidly growing fireball.

I just replaced my entire reg assembly and hoses.
I purchased Marshall Excelsior MER42512 12" hoses, they worked ok, the 20" hoses shown in this thread look interesting though.
The reg is an exact but newer replacement to what was on the trailer, Marshall Excelsior MEGR-253P.
The low pressure hose, downstream of the regulator, I purchased a 4' model because of a pinch I had in the copper line under the tongue that I cut out, is a Marshall Excelsior MER610-48P.
Used a 1/4 bottle of Dawn dish-soap to bubble test all the connections when I was done.

I purchased all the components on Amazon.

Hi. I purchased a couple of aluminum 40-lb tanks with gauges from Vintage Trailer Supply, they arrived today. Couple of things to note. The valve connections are at an angle so as not to interfere with the gauges, unfortunately my 12" hoses don't have enough length to make the angled connection. In the back of my mind I remembered the post here (#13) with 20" hoses, so I'm going to need to order them and try them. Also if you notice on the new tanks there is only a hole on one side of the top round ring, I'm not sure how I'm going to get the clamp to work with out holes on both sides of the rings. I may have to hole saw the other side. Suggestions?

I bought my 20 inch propane pigtails from etrailer. Speedy shipping and they had the proper fittings to attach to the regulator on my 2016 FCFBT

If you go to your local propane company, they can make whatever you want in whatever length you need.

I did the Amazon Many lengths available.
Measure...you may not need a full 20".
I turned my bottles slightly in the carrier to help with alignment.

I purchased Marshall Excelsior MER42520 20" hoses from Amazon last night. I'll post a pic when they are installed. The last two digits of the part number is the length. I'm thinking 18" would still give a (loop) and be a bit tighter, and not rub on things, but I still opted for the 20's, just call my chicken

. The hose length thing is kind of tough, the hoses are a bit expensive to just try different lengths willy-nilly. We want them long enough to not be in a bind, but also not so long that they rub on stuff eventually creating holes.
