Propane leaking!

Today my propane tank started leaking. Well, not exactly. Looks like the overflow port on the back of the valve started leaking propane. I shut down the tank by closing the valve, but apparently, that did not stop it from expelling gas.

So what was happening? It appears that when it was filled by the campground, they overfilled the tank. Today was the warmest day we've had in three weeks. I'm guessing the warm weather expanded the gas. Gas was coming out of the rear valve. It is the port with the hex head in the tube. Am I correct in this assumption? Has this happen to anyone else?

That is the best guess from here. There should be a over-pressure release that will open if high pressure. Maybe in different locations by brand. You could open the over-flow bleed valve, used when filling, and drain off propane. Carefully!

If you are not comfortable bleeding the tank off at least light the stove and burn some off. Another approach would be to weigh the tank and check it against the gross weight stamped on the tank.

Don't leave it till spring.
