Propane Detector issue

Original propane detector failed within one year. Replacement has also failed within a year.

Third detector won't power up. Checked voltage and got 8.5 volts.

Connected failed unit and it fails to power up als

All connections were wire to wire.

Any thoughts?

I think you found your issue. Find the appropriate fuse in the panel and check voltage there. Check the screw terminals at the fuse panel for tightness. Find the 12v ground bar and check all of the connections there. Trace as much of the wire as possible looking for problems.

There are counterfeit LP detectors on the market, Although not of your model, its still possible some like yours were also counterfeit. Personally, I would look for the voltage problem and also consider replacing the unit with a MTI unit

The detectors use an in-line fuse. Your fuse may be partially gone or otherwise defective.

A common issue people have when changing the detector is snipping both wires at the same time, causing a short and causing the fuse to blow. Then they can't get the new detector powered up.
