Old 1/4" pigtails don't fit new 1/4" regulator?

My Marshall 250 (not one of the recalled ones) started only putting out 4" of water column, so I purchased a new regulator.

The new regulator is a Cavagna 528RV purchased from RVUpgrades.com.

The Marshall manual is for a Marshall 254 (but the regulator says "Model 250" on the back). The manual says that the inlet is a 1/4" female flare, which should mean that my pigtails are 1/4" male flare.

The Cavagna 528RV manual says that the inlets on this regulator are also 1/4" female flare... but the old pigtails don't fit the new regulator.

Also, when I measure either the inside diameter or the outside diameter of the male pigtails OR the female inlets, nothing seems to measure 1/4".

What the heck is going on?

Well... so now I'm suspecting that my model 254 isn't model 254. It's an old model 250 that somehow found its way onto my 2007 19' Safari SE. Let me guess... the model 250 didn't have inverted flare fittings, right?
