new couple question (propane line)

Hi everyone, new couple just getting started on the Airstream Life!!!
We have a 2022 GT27FBT and have a question regarding the propane line routing. i have included pictures, but the question is the proximity to the passenger side front stabilizer rotating element. Seems having the hose so close to rotation will damage it over time. TIA.

I cover all the exposed propane lines with old garden hose. Split it lengthwise and slip over the lines. I have also seen the black plastic wire loom used for the same purpose.

The copper line is soft you can bend it with your hands to get it out of the way.

That rubber hose is inappropriate for that installation. A rigid line..preferrably copper…should be used…and routed away from the jack.

The same guy that ran your line must have run mine too. I repositioned the line to run over the jack shaft. It was also hanging down at the A frame in the front.

This is interesting. On my 2017 Flying Cloud the underbody propane lines are copper covered in what looks like Pex.

Ed and Liz,

My 2021 Caravel 16 had that propane line installed in the exact same manner, which makes NO SENSE. I unbolted and removed the stabilizer, tucked the line up under the frame and reinstalled the stabilizer. Now the line is not dangling loosely in harms way and better supported by the jack frame. Took all of five minutes.

FYI, put a jack under the tongue if you ever work under you trailer, just in case the tongue jack fails while you’re underneath, which would be bad.

Hope this helps.

Bob, are the stabilizer bolts threaded into a fixed nut or do you need access to both ends to reinstall?

My stabilizer pinched that propane line early on.

Reference to the comment made by Boxite, the garden hose is used to COVER the copper propane line, not replace it!! I live on gravel roads and the garden hose protects the copper line from rocks and other road debris. It is a good idea to wrap the copper lines with something to protect them, and old garden hose works great!!

Thanks everyone for your help. We communicated with dealer to make sure we don’t void any warranty coverage. Just want to make sure the correction is done once and done correctly.

I have the same issue on my FC 30bunk and I’ve been wanting to fix it. I incorrectly assumed they must have had a reason for doing it that way. 2 questions:

1. Has anyone changed out the propane hose to something safer altogether? It’s made me nervous that the propane line is just hanging there and could catch on something. I
2. Probably a simple question, but does anyone have the part number to add more of the hooks to better secure the propane line and is there any issue with drilling into the belly pan (or is it the same process as drilling a hole in the roof and using sealant in the hole)?

Thanks.

You can get hold down clamps at hardware stores or places like Home Depot. I used self tapping screws to attach mine to the belly pan or to the frame. Sorry, I don't remember what the outside diameter of the propane hose is.

Bill,

Sorry for the delay. You've probably figured this out by now, but the bolts go into a threaded nut in the frame, i.e. you only need one socket wrench.

Thanks for the response, Bob. I have been busy in other projects and have not pursued this yet.

Happy travels.
