Mounting New LP Regulator Troubles

My old regulator on the 84 Excella looked like this:

When mounted it looked like this:

I purchased a new regulator from the propane dealer.
It looks like this:

The old regulator was on 2" center at the holes and 3" nipple to nipple.
The new regulator is 3.5" centered on the holes and 4.5" nipple to nipple.

The new regulator will not mount on the existing bracket and allow the tanks to be placed in their hoops. And of course the Aluminum tank cover won't go over the bottles because they can't sit in the hoops.

So, the conundrum is: How do I mount the regulator so the tanks sit in their hoops, and I can continue to use the Airstream Tank Cover?

The tank cover has the domed lid like this one.

I would be interested in solutions others have used to solve this problem.
Thanks!

Is there a source for a new regulator that is closer to the old one at 3" nipple to nipple instead of 4.5" nipple to nipple?

Have you considered relocating the regulator? On my Safari, it is mounted up high on a metal bracket that is torqued down by the tank hold-down bracket.

You may need new hoses but that could be a good thing anyway.

(Sorry I do not have picture of the top-mount regulator on mine but it looks sorta like this....

I did what Wayward said the bracket is available from Airstream and those 2 holes in the regulator in your second picture will mount to the new bracket raise it up high on the tanks and put it on the other side of the tanks with new hoses . mine is a 1985 and had the same setup as you .

I purchased from Holiday World RV an Excela - Flow Auto Change Over Regulator. Part # 06-0443 and it fit in the same spot on my 83 Excella. It's made in USA. I would suggest you change the hoses too. This Texas heat it tough. Gin

I ordered the new tank hold down bracket with the tongue bracket regulator mount.
However, the provided holes placed the regulator too high and would not allow the tank cover to be placed.

Therefore, I took an old license plate and made an adaptor bracket to mount to the tongue, then mounted the regulator to the adaptor bracket.

Next is new hoses as they will all require new lengths.

New setup has been tried and fits.
Here it is prior to the new hoses.
