Max length for Propane quick connect hose to BBQ?

I'm reviewing my options for a propane hose from my Airstream quick-connect outlet to my BBQ.

What's the longest practical (w/o losing too much flow) hose length for this application?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Bryan

I ordered a hose from etrailer that was manufactured by MBSturgis. 100395-120-MBS. MB Sturgis Dual Quick Disconnect Propane Hose for Small Appliance - 10'. That was 8 years ago. I spoke with a rep from MBSturgis at the time to ask if I could hook another 10’ hose to make up a 20’ hose. They said they could do it but would not recommend it because the drop from the hose length and couplings would probably affect my stove’s performance. I would suggest you call MB Sturgis, detail what you have and ask for their recommendation. Sorry I have no definitive answer, but they should be able to help.

When I extend small LP hoses over 20' to my LP firepit, it works at first but then has pressure issues I assume from condensation in the line.

We have this 24' hose which works fine with the low pressure connection and our 3x30k BTU burner stove.

I'm a little curious why there would be much of a pressure drop over distance unless it's a leaky hose or connection.

? Long enough ?

We have a 20' hose and have not noticed anything we use it on a fire pit and our Webber Q . I guess I wasn't smart enough to think about it. Been doing it for about 3 years and love being able to get 20 foot from our rig.

I don't know if I'm comparing apples to apples--but when we changed to a gas tankless water heater at home, we buried our propane tank approximately 50-60' from the water heater. The run to the heater is through 1/2" copper tubing and it feeds the water heater with no problems.

20'

Use a 20' hose to both our propane bowl and to our Blackstone griddle. No issues.

Exclamation Hose woes

Blackstone to the onboard lp with (2) 12' rubber hoses and connections.
No issues, though maybe a smaller heat flame. We're considering using a Y-splitter for the generator for convenience.
Probably won't work at the same time.

Disconnect any rubber hoses overnight. Critters like to nibble.

***** Dangerous, especially if they chew through the main hose from regulator (under tanks). They did, so we replaced the rubber with braided steel.

I think you are comparing apples and oranges as they say.

The 1/2" copper tubing from the propane tank at a residential installation is typically higher pressure (not full pressure) and is further regulated down to the working pressure at the point of use.

Regardless, the OP should consider a single length of hose rather than two hoses to eliminate any pressure drop associated with the added quick disconnect.

Having said that, several years ago when I wanted a 20' propane hose, all I could find at the time was two 10' hoses. My system works fine (at home, not on the trailer) with the two 10' hoses and the associated, extra, quick disconnect.

I second the knowledge at MBSturgis. I've purchased items from them in the past.

From what I've read you can have a longer hose, if it is a larger diameter. Since the larger diameter would have less restriction. Also I was told this was the case with water hoses.

I’ve been using 30’ of quick connect propane hose connected to my International serenity 23’ for 4 years with no problems whatsoever… It provides enough propane to grill everything from fish , steaks, and chicken.. I use it for cooking bacon in the morning and any thing else that needs grilling…

I have been using a 25' extension from a quick connect I added at the rear bumper for a LP/ gasoline 2200 watt generator and it will produce full power from that outlet that is as far from the thanks and regulator as you can get.

Hose Length

When i converted my new Q 2200 to low flow I had the same question and was told the reason for the 6 ft included hose was. 1) To keep the grill from under your awning and 2) Propane gas starts turning back to liquid after that length. Maybe that was misinformation but I've not had any issues.

I'll bet there is greater loss with 2-10 ft hoses vs. a 20 ft hose due to the extra connector set.

I use a 20’ hose all the time! If you want to use it on device that has a built in pressure regulator, it will need to be removed as the supply line coming from your rig is already regulated.

Does your fire pit have a built-in regulator? If so, it would need to be removed to use the extension hose.

We've been using two 20’ hoses for years now with no problems. 20’ to the Weber, Y fitting, then another 20’ from there to the Outland fire pit (its regulator removed).
