LP Gas Regulator Replacemant

Lucy is about to turn eight years old. I have been smelling an LP gas leak and did some testing with soapy water. There is a leak where the right tank supply hose enters the regulator. I tried some thread sealant, but the leak persists. Both supply hoses were replaced about three years ago.

I have decided to replace her regulator and supply hoses. I am looking for recommendations for a new LP regulator and supply hoses.

Etrailer has great customer service and they sell made in USA hoses. Get the 20 inch pigtails to give you more space to flex

If you have a propane repair shop in your area you should be able to get this all locally. I asked at the propane dealer where I get my tanks inspected & filled and they sent me to a shop in town. Got a new high-quality regulator and had custom hoses made on the spot. Cost no more than ordering online, and if something wasn't right I could get it resolved locally.

Those OEM pigtails are terribly un-reliable. Both of ours started leaking (2017 model) where the hose is crimped to the connector that goes into the regulator after only 2 years. After a band-aid repair on a trip I replaced both pigtails with good MB Sturgis ones from etrailer 3 years ago and they are still fine.

I have replaced 3 of them over the years, not to leaking but the switch over failed. I just got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

easy peasy to replace it
Just use yellow Teflon tape for the gas fittings and soap test the finished work
I had to replace mine at the Escanaba International rally....failed right after I loaded the fridge with frozen food.
I would purchase hoses from a propane supplier to get a decent set but others have suggested their experience so go with what works for you
BTW when replacing the regulator be sure to look at how the tank indicator is oriented. My regulator from the local RV outfit had the window facing the back side of the cover so I had no idea of my tank status.

GasStop and Stainless hoses

After you replace the regulator install these for your safety, Gas Stop on each tank with Stainless hoses. I mocked up this setup for them on our trailer. Everyone is welcome to copy it. I used two 45 degree pipe adapters found at Lowes and Gas Stop valves and Hoses. Clean look, hoses do not rub on the cover as seen on some of the YouTube demos.

Thank you all for the input. I ended up ordering the Flame King Kit on Amazon. Several of the other units recommended are not currently available.

You can get a ME heavy Duty regulator for about the same price as the regular duty. Then, you can use multiple high gas use appliances including a generator at the same time. No volume flow problems after that. Mine works great.

I actually had the custom made by a local rubber and hose outfitter for commercial use to prevent this non-sense. My failed before three years!!!

How reliable are those fuel gauges? Also, how well do they stand up to weather. Been thinking about installing them on my tanks.
Thanks

These are not fuel level gauges, they're pressure gauges. You can find more information here:

That was my experience as well and why I had some made by experts in the gas line business.

I might have tried something like that, but I am about half way between Pensacola and Panama City. There isn't much nearby.

They are a safety device to shut off propane if a leak occurs. The side benefit is they do give an estimate of fuel level after you use them over time.

I thought we were using to much propane I install one it shut off the flow of propane. I later found a fitting just bubbling with a soap water check.

The misconception is they are a gauge

In my opinion (based on some experience) the soapy water test for propane leaks is not so reliable; you have to have access everywhere and be able to observe it. For about $30 you can get a very sensitive battery powered device:

Exactly but this is an RV tech showing how to leak test an entire system. This test doesn’t find a leak it just checks if the system is leaking or not.
