I noticed today while giving my money away at the local super-duper discount store aka walfart that the prices are higher, about $5, if you exchange a non-opd valve bottle for a new opd one, what a rip-off were paying to have the bottle were turning in retrofitted too? will they ever stop picking our pockets?
John pissed off at the moment, get me a beer quick!
After 4/1 exchange tanks went from $15.99 to $21.99. A week ago Amerigas had a "free drop off" for old propane cylinders. They got 3600. Now they have maybe 3000 cylinders that they got free that they can change valves and put back in their exchange program. I guess they did find one cylinder made in 1927, that still had propane in it!

I'm confused, can't I turn in an old bottle without OPD, get a new one with OPD and only pay $5 for the conversion? Then I can just keep having the new bottle filled.
Pick, have you had your valves converted, if so where and for how much?

You can turn in a bottle with the old style valve it will just cost you more than an one that has already been converted. Non-opd valve bottles are no longer suppose to be filled by law.
In Mexico, their world operates on propane! They do not care about any stinkin' OPD valve. And gas is cheap. Most propane stations do one thing and one thing only. Sell propane! And they are good at it. No over fills, and fast service.
There are benefits to having a 3rd world country as a suburb.

Melprice: I got mine done at Lake Erie Iron and Metal, which is at Richmond St. and Rt.2 in Painesville. They did my 30 Lb aluminum tanks for $45 with fill up and recertification. I think $18 was for the fill up, $5 for the recertification and the rest for changing the valve.
