I'm helping my cousin restore/refurbish their 65 Caravel and I'm hoping someone can offer some suggestions on the furnace. The pilot light lights and the burner comes on but it puts out very little heat. The unit has no fan so I understand it's not going to heat like mine in my 04 Classic. I did blow out the burner area with high pressure air but didn't seem to make any difference on the heat output. I can see the flame and it looks like it is burning about as high as a stove top burner on a medium setting.
If we end up having to replace it what should we use for a unit? Thanks. Lee
Welcome to the forum.
With such a small trailer, you really don't need a fan-forced furnace. If you don't like the original furnace (and I'd really hesitate to use it), you can get a small furnace, similar to that used in pop-up campers. If you want one that doesn't have a fan, you can look into a catalytic heater.
Remove the guts, replace it with a Suburban LP Heater behind the original metal shield. Put a hinge on the metal shield, put a shelf in, and use the area above for storage.
Or, just buy an electric heater, gut the furnace, keep the metal shield, hinge it, and use the area behind for storage.
