How to safely remove gas stove ?

I have gutted most of my AS and want to remove the gas stove/oven from 2000 Excella. Where is the best spot to cut off the supply of gas?

Just turn off the bottles.
I don not think there is a local shut off behind the stove so the whole system ha to be shut off

There should be a disconnect underneath the trailer, I would turn that off and remove the line from there up to the stove. Then remove the stove... I am basing this on the assumption that you are doing away with the stove?

Safest way is, light the burners. Then go outside and shut the propane off at the cylinders. The burners will burn off any residual propane in the lines and then go out by themselves.

Good ideas�� I will replace burners with induction plates and oven with micro/convection unit.

When you have the induction plates installed I would like to see a photo of the install.

Are you going to upgrade the electrical to 50A 220v? At ~1800 watts each, two induction plates would not work on the 30A 120v service, even if everything else was off.

There should be a shutoff valve under the trailer. In addition shutting that valve and removing the line to the stove, you should install a threaded cap and test it with soap bubbles to make sure it is gas tight.

Thanks Alan, I guess I'll just use the one plate that draws 1800 watts and replace the top burners with a two burner has stove top and micro under

There may or may not be a shutoff under the trailer. I don't know about the new ones. Mine had a shutoff right where it entered the inside of the stove itself. You can put in a cap like listed above to ensure it's gas tight. Use the yellow teflon tape - made for propane. Easiest way is to use tin snips to cut it. Flatten, then cut.

I've been in campgrounds with full hookups where the power has gone out for hours, and every time I travel, the need for a cup of coffee always strikes 100 miles from any decent coffee shop.

I think you're wise to choose a 2 burner propane hob. I'd forgo expensive installed induction plates. Save your counter space. I fell for those infomercial Nu-Wave Induction burners (2 for $100 - just resist most or all of the "pay the shipping only" crap) and gotta tell you they are great. Better than installed because you can use them outside too. Fondue anyone? Get a hob with a glass cover, and set the induction burner on top of it (they don't like being put on a metal surface). Best thing? Timer as an alarm clock. At 7:00 my kettle starts to sing and I reluctantly crawl out of bed.

Having a 2 burner stovetop (hob) that uses propane is handy when traveling or when the power goes out. Burners aren't safe to heat the trailer... but if it's just chilly a cup of hot soup or tea really helps. Without electricity most furnaces won't operate, but even a Honda 1000 and a heavy duty extension cord can run a space heater or a Dyson HOT/Cold fan. Not comfy, but warm enough to keep the pipes from freezing. Long johns - ugly but functional!
