How can I fill my US Ali gas bottles with LPG in the UK???

Hi there

I am knew to the site so forgive me if this comes in the wrong section!! Please can anyone help or advise me?? I live in the UK in my newly acquired 67 Safari and want to fill my US Aluminium gas bottles with LPG. I would like to know who can supply me with a adaptor? If possible or any ideas what I could do as I am running out of gas.

Thank you

Since no one else has answered yet, I'll jump in and be the first to show my ignorance. It actually never even occurred to me that there would be a difference in the tank fittings. I would think the BEST source of information would be other Airstream owners in the UK - there are more than just a few of them, and surely they have faced the same dilemma. Perhaps one of them will see your message on this forum and give you the solution to the problem. IF an adapter exists, I would think you'd only find it over there. If there is not one on the market I would think that, in theory at least, a good machine shop should be able to make one. However, making anything for such fuel systems may require special licenses and permits, and finding someone to cobble up a part that will work may be a practical impossibility.

Do you have a picture of your tank valve? Do you know if they were updated prior to them being shipped to the UK? The US changed the standard for valves a while back, but plenty of the old style are still around.

I am not in the UK but have some contacts over there.

Hi Bev & Mel,

We purchased an adaptor for our US bottles so we can fill them in the UK from :

Paul Rees at abp-accessories.co.uk.

Two forums in the UK, which may be useful to you are :

ukairstreamers.org

and

RV Owners Club - rvoc.co.uk
