Perhaps the tanks are taller?

Mine actually is curved up. No room above the tanks. Forty pound tanks.

If you look at all the photos posted by people so far, it seems like a big difference in the setups is the tanks themselves. The aluminum tanks appear to have a taller collar on top without as many/as large holes in them, meaning that the hold-down bar goes on the top of the tank collar.

On the steel tanks there are large hand-holds built into the collars which can be used to place the hold-down bar.

Not sure which is 'better', or if one is better. But it would explain why people have such different setups. I'm sure that even between different brands of steel tanks there are differences, so it's easy to imagine that there are numerous combinations which will result in way different understandings of how the tank cover fits.

Maybe a better way to answer the question about tank cover size is for people to measure the covers instead of reporting how they fit. I believe that in recent years there have been two different tank cover lids in use - one taller than the other - to accommodate different types of tanks.

Airstream mounts the LP tanks too close to the power jack... and the LP tank cover doesn't set quite right, and bows in at the front near the jack. Poor design. Looks janky for a $100k travel trailer....

Finally figured out how to attach pictures (ipad). Again, this is a 2023 Fly Cloud 23FB Twin. The shelf I just made from scrape wood but it works good.
Yes, the cover on my 26U is just like those images.
I don't store anything because the tongue is already too heavy (1125#)
