Any unique LP cover ideas
I would like to have one of those fancy alum. Airstream LP tank covers but they exceed my budget. I bought a vinyl cover and painted it silver and it looks like an LP tank in a bad suit.(sort of like the silver space suits worn on the old Si-Fi flicks) There are the plastic covers that I see on other camper brands, but they don't look like something that would look correct on an Airstream.
I'm open to ideas if you have any. Thank you.

Perhaps another color? Airstream blue for instance.
What Airstream do you have?

Why not just wait, saving enough up to purchase the proper Airstream tank cover?

I have a 1971 Safari 23' (twin beds/ rear bath/ front sofa). We have owned it about 8 years and I have completed a great deal of interror restoration and a few odds and ends outside. Haven't gotten into the polishing craze yet - but I enjoy seeing the pictures of those that do. Still use carpet instead of hardwood. Replaced counter tops, repaired armstrong AC, repaired bath, new upph., repared all tambor, new ref. and then the hidden stuff like brakes etc. It is a great size for me, wife, daughter and yellow dog! I even have the bunk bed but use it only for a shelf, never allowed daughter to risk-it.
Paint it blue might work - and another person mentioned to save my money and buy the real thing!
Thanks for the suggestions!

An Airbrush artist can probably do amazing things on the tanks themselves, or you can just clean them up and paint them yourself. I found the aluminum covers a bit cumbersome to deal with, although they do look very nice.
I opted for Worthington Aluminum tanks, they are very light and easy to handle, both empty and full.
I was thinking a flame paint job for a split second, but then thought of it as poor taste.....

Hi Lyn,
Nice travelin trailer. Sounds like you are off to a great start. I do like the tank cover on my Excella. I wanted one the entire time I was in the Trade Wind. The ’67 is a real fixer upper.
The ’83 needed very little work. The only problem is the hail damage on its forehead and I can’t it from my chair. The PO recovered the front sofa with the largest herringbone fabric I have ever seen. I have been calling it whalebone. The colors are a good match and I like it. The carpet is in excellent condition, so no hurry to change that. It’s pretty nice in the winter. All I have done is some of the counter tops. I modified the one over the “entertainment center” to provide enough space to setup my Mac G4 and a 37” Mitsubishi 1080p LCD TV/monitor. It makes an outstanding monitor, 1920 x 1080. Photos of the interior are at:
http://airforums.com/photos/browseim...0&userid=17830
I don’t have photos of the exterior right now because it looks exactly like any other 1983 34’ Excella, but with hail damage. I’ll put some up later.
Speaking of photos…

Hi Uwe,
The Worthington Aluminum tanks look great too. Plain right now, and very little extra surface if Lyn gets the polishing bug. No cover necessary.
Speaking of poor taste, I once considered building a 429 Pinto drag car. Thought I’d have it flamed from the back forward.

I think that a nice paint job on the tanks is way cooler than any cover.

softwear idea
We didn't want the extra weight of an aluminum propane tank cover, nor the Plastic look of the camping world . . . . so, with some Top Gun fabric leftover from another project, I constructed a propane tank cover. (Top Gun is used for trailered powerboat covers so withstands abrasion & is road worthy.)
The cover has a YKK size 10 nylon zipper on the backside for quick access to the valves. Under the top is a piece of 1/4" plexy for rigidity. There's a reinforced grommet in the top & a hole in the plexy; all fit over the rod & secured by a wingnut. Also, there's a vinyl "window" on the back to see the gage.
Here's some pictures . . .

Solo tank mount & cover
Has anyone seen a vendor for single tank covers?
All the suppliers I see on the net are for twin tanks.
thanks,
em.

I have the cover from our '05 Safari that you can have for free! We installed 30# Worthington tanks and don't need the cover anymore. You are welcome to it all you would need is to cover the UPS charges.

Wow, Rick, that is a really nice gift. I was dumb enough to leave the tailgate down while backing into my storage area. Have to cut sharp both directions and of course, dented both front corners of the cover. Dealer quoted me $500 to replace. I passed and will keep the dents as a reminder to pay attention.

We are considering making our own covers out of canvas in an Airstream Blue color. We just completed making our own awnings with the same fabric. I think it would be easy to sew a large loop of fabric that will cover the tanks and then sew in an oval piece for the top. We will likely have the loop be split so we can add snaps or a zipper down the back to ensure the cover is tight against the tanks when closed. We have not started on this yet, but have a good amount of fabric left.
