62 GT Carlson Catalyst Heater Problem!
Hi Gang,
I'm trying to get my 62 Globetrotter prepped for a long winter get away.. The original Carlson model 12 (12,000 btu) catalyst heater is having issues. It won't stay burning continuously. Sometimes, it will work for 2 hours, other times I can't make it work for 2 minutes. Looking at the flame, it's like it is partially obstructed, or the pressure isn't sufficient. It always appears to be almost going out.. until it does. Sometimes, I can get the pilot to stay lit for a few hours, but that does't seem to effect the outcome when I turn it on. I thought maybe the regulator was restricting the flow.. Changed it out and nothing different. I'm thinking it must just need some fine cleaning, but I don't want to go in there and alter the gas orifice and screw it up! Anyone have experience with these and this problem? When it kicks off, I can hear a loud click.. I think that is the safety valve closing? My other suspicion is the pilot plunger.. It feels a little sticky, not so precise/crisp feeling and seems like it should go in further, but it does allow gas to flow.. so maybe thats not the problem.. Again, any insight or ideas before I tear in there would be appreciated!! Thanks. Jason
