1966 Airstream Ambassador black water tank

My husband and I are looking to purchase a 1966 Airstream Ambassador for $10,500. The owners say it needs a new black water tank. If we do this ourselves, then does anyone know an estimate cost of the project?

The only vendor I am aware of that sells that tank wants around $445 for the tank and probably another $100 to ship it due to its size. On top of that, add another C-note or two for incidentals like fittings that can't be moved from one tank to another.

$10-1/2k sounds high for an Airstream with busted plumbing - I hope there are some really nice redeeming features.

This is some of the listing: “This vintage 28' camper is a true survivor. It is 95% original. It has a newer water pump, good tires, water works, water heater, shower, and all faucets work. It has the original propane lamp which works. All the original lighting works along with all the running, brake, and tail lights. The worst dent is in the front corner,(see pic), otherwise it is pretty straight for being 52 years old. She isn't perfect but a great candidate for restoration or use as is as we have for the last couple years. Bigger problems are it needs a new black water tank,( old one is busted up), and the fridge only works on electric, never could get it to run on propane?”

Any more advice about this?

If it's that original there is probably floor damage or floor repair. Check the condition of either.

To me the price is kind of high for a long trailer. But I highly recommend this link for determining the value of an Airstream:

Thank you for all your input! We hope to be living in an Airstream full time by Summer of 2019. Just need to find the best option for our budget.

I have the original fiberglass black tank (above the floor), and toilet from a '65 Avion Sportsman that I removed. They are both in great condition. I think it is probably the same as for a 66 Airstream. If you are interested, please let me know, they are both free, but unless you can pick them up, you will have to pay for shipping.
