Region 3 has a subscription to Constant Contact and utilizes it to provide a monthly newsletter to the members of units in the region as well as to the MAL's in the region. Currently the monthly newsletters are sent to the 659 unit members and 60 MAL's. There are 858 unit members and 78 MAL's in Region 3. This month the WBCCI Quarterly financial report was sent to all of the above folks.

We have received positive feed back from many members about the regular newsletter and other information.

If anyone would like to be added to the mailing list, send me a message and I'll add you to the mailing list.

Just a note to say that I received my copy of "News and Views" this afternoon via email. (And, I have to add, the new feature on the site indicating courtesy parking via zoomable map is very cool!)

I just got the free courtesy parking map app for iPhone. Really cool.

The only problem we have experienced with courtesy parking is the lack of contact information such as phone or email information. When we are on the road there is insufficient time to send a letter. It's a great idea.

The annual club directory has email addresses but, emails and responses may not be fast enough, if you are not planning ahead. Courtesy parkers do have their phone numbers published in the Blue Beret courtesy parking section. Posting them openly to the internet would make it easier for smart phone users to not bother to carry the Blue Beret directory edition with them and make last minute cell phone calls and arrivals easier. That is not very courteous to our volunteers offing courtesy parking. The smart phone generation does like to do things on the spur of the moment.

Yes we do. It is easy to make a secure app that is password protected to the individual user. I have secure email, itunes, Paypal, amazon accounts with stored credit card info and dont have issues.

I carry two smart phones (work and personal) that I can do everything and get any info I want except the member directory. Oh well such is life.

I don't carry the member directory or for that matter a phone book or the yellow pages for the places we travel.

So in the end I like the app that is on thee ECC website even though it is not functional on the road for folks who don't carry the member directory. But baby steps are good.

Shame on me for not checking the Directory and there it was, phone listings for the parking. We do keep a directory in the vehicle and the app will be a great help. There have been times, in the past, when we would have used the courtsey parking but there were no contact numbers. This will be a great help.

I personally wish to thank those members that have volunteered their free hospitality to their fellow club members for an overnight stay. I would not think of dropping without talking to them three or four days in advance, to make sure my plans did not interfere with their plans. If you have email from the road, that would seem appropriate or a cell phone call might make it more personal.

It is my personal goal to have WBCCIs web site operate a little like the VACs site - allow joining & renewals online. I speak only for myself of course but I am pretty sure the rest of the ECC would like to see the same thing.

I am currently working on a way to have the VACs membership coordinators information sync what is happening with the site so when someone renews on the site, it reflects instantly into the MC data or when someone renews by snail-mail, and we update the info in the membership coordinators data, that data is instantly set on the site as well so that they have instant we access.

If we could have that for the VAC (and I hopeful we will this year) we could have that for WBCCI as well. And that would mean that every member could log into the site and see all the information they need to see on the Courtesy Parking Map as well as a whole host of other goodies.

Until that time we do have to make a trade off in what we can and cannot do and show. There are enough people in the club who would prefer to make their information private, so that is what we will do for all. And it’s not too much trouble to throw your membership directory in your trailer for the road. Should you want to make an unplanned stop somewhere you still have the means to negotiate that with your fellow WBCCI members.

Its not perfect by far and certainly not the best solution but the one we will take until we can offer better to the club. Trust me - we do want to give more!

The new rally will be the one held right at the fiesta fairgrounds, (now) formerly a unit rally of the Four Corners Unit and the Central Coast California Unit, Ken Johansen as local organizer.

I must say, this might single-handedly get me to re-join the WBCCI. I let my membership lapse some years ago after not finding that I was getting adequate value for my membership fee. But, this map alone might very well be worth the $65/year.

Kudos to the ECC committee and all the volunteers for getting the online version of WBCCI to where it is today. You've brought it a long way and it is appreciated very much by those of us who left the WBCCI in part because of the antiquated practices.

It is not an app. It is just a shape file for the ESRI ArcGIS app. I can't find the shape file location anymore. Maybe someone else will pipe in while I look for it...
