hi angle73
there a several great threads here that answer this question.....
go to the wbcci sub forum here......
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f286/
and read some of the threads with similar titles.......
ignore most of those on page 1 regarding "VOTES or NAME CHANGE" or with this is the title....
you will only get confused and depressed.....
read the ones with positive titles.....
like back on page 3/4 for your answers....
cheer

I was asking this when I bought my first one. I stumbled into the Top of GA park while in Helen, GA. The first person was snootey and after asking some questions about my '75 he told me to talk to a member of the VAC that was in the park. That couple was as friendly as could be and were a wealth of info. A member summed it up about how our kids felt " I bet your kids are loving having all these grandparents around" Mine are ages 4, 6 and 9. The now $7.00 a night for 3 way and limited cable over twenty something for two way at the state park was a big plus.

There is a real nice Airstream park in Crossville TN. Members can own their own lots, but there are also some club owned rental lots. I have stayed there a couple times. Seem like friendly people. There should be several WBCCI chapters in your area. Join the local one if you want to participate locally. They should have four or five local rallies per year. All rallies are held at cost. If you only want to participate in national events then you can join the Washington DC unit for $1 per year and pay your $55 International dues thru them. That allows you to participate in any rally or caravan. There are maybe 1500 events per year to choise from. You also get the magazine. If you do not wish to participate in any events, the mag is not worth $55. Dues money is spent to produce the mag and maintain the central office in Jackson center plus travel money to the International and Region officers.

The snobs would be snobs without the Airstream. We have been members since 1979, our kids grew up in WBCCI and had MANY grandparents. The information you get from other members is super. The money goes to administrative fees, the Blue Beret magazine 10 times a year and the International directory. If you are in a park and another Airstream comes in, chances are 90% that you will meet them. It's a GREAT club to belong to. Come, join, and have a good time.

We have been members for less than 8 months. During that time we've attended 3 rallies involving 3 different units, met some amazing people, made some good friends, and acquired a wealth of information about Airstreams and trailering.
It's kind of like this forum, only in 3D.

I would suggest that you do consider joining the WBCCI and a local unit (you must be a member of the WBCCI to be in a local unit). The experiences and fellowship of like minded Airstreamers is part of what makes owning and playing with one of these a joyful experience.
There is tons of information on these forums about experiences people have had in local units. Some good and some not so good. You are more likely to find information about your specific unit by contacting them directly or looking at their web site (if they have one, your area does not appear to have one at this time). But I would also offer that you not ignore "certain threads" on these forums about the WBCCI as was suggested above.
Every unit is chartered through the WBCCI. The WBCCI is going through some changes and facing issues that directly impact the operation and in fact the very existence of some local units. There are controversial issues discussed on these forums and the path that WBCCI is taking on behalf of its membership is certainly one of them. Don't hide from these issues, learn about them.
Your region will have more information about your local unit and can be visited at http://members.cox.net/muscogee/index.html. Also WBCCI's web site lists contact information for your region at http://www.wbcci.org/index.cfm?pageS...ons®ionID=6.

If there's a local unit you would participate with, I'd say go to a couple rallys and check them out to see what they are like. Every unit is different. If there's not, then I would save the money. I don't see any reason to be part of the WBCCI unless there's a good local unit for you to be active with. It's a lot of money, and unless you're retired to travel around and take part in caravans and other big rallys, you probably won't find much to do with it.
The magazine isn't really a magazine at all, it's just a schedule of upcoming events. If you want a cool Airstream magazine to keep you in touch with Airstreamers, get Airstream Life.

You can join any Unit and participate in any other Unit's activities. You don't have to be a member of the Unit in your state if you most often travel in the area of another.
One thing ti consider, as a Unit Member, you have voting privledges, as a Member at Large, currently you do not....but hopefully that will be changing soon.

Region 5 or 6 membership
Attend rallies at both before you decide. You can usually negociate a couple buddy rallies before you need to actually pay for membership. I belong to Region 5 which extends all the way up to the Wisconsin border. The region 5 biggest rally is usually held toward the south part but this year is in Elkart. I have never attended any region 6 functions. You can get schedules of events for each local and region to evaluate from the WBCCI website. Look at the differences in ages of people in each local and whether their life styles resemble your own. They are like your local extended family you are about to adopt.
