WBCCI worthwhile for newbie renovating or wait?

So we just got a 1963 gutted Sovereign with a new frame and floor and that is about it. I posted a Reno thread on here. It is going to be a 3-5 year project because we are DIYing it, have a family and work, plus our money tree out back does not produce windfalls, and we plan to pay as we go. The plan is to at least be tin tent camping by next year. (Maybe...might be a little longer.)

My question is, is it worthwhile to get a membership while we are working on the camper and not camping in it? Or would be better to spend our $75 on rivets and Vulkem and wait to join until we are actually able to take it on the road camping? Are there benefit to membership even if you aren't yet camping?

I'm waiting my turn in the thread about our ghost numbers. (#8125) I'm thinking if our number is available, reserving your number if it is available so someone else doesn't get it would make it worthwhile?

Also what do the 5 stars by my numbers mean? Did the numbers used to be white or did the red fade that much?

We found it very helpful to be members of the WBCCI and the Vintage Airstream Club (VAC Intra Club), especially during our early years of restoration. It was encouraging to meet local members who had restored before us that we could bounce ideas off of & learn from.

We got our first Airstream before AirForums existed which is a wealth of knowledge, but I still think the face to face relationships you develop and camaraderie you develop as you go through your restoration with others are priceless. Not to mention the encouragement you can share with each other along the way.

We’ve met some wonderful lifelong friends in our 20+ years of membership. We were the greenest of “newbies” when we first joined, now we are some of the “old-timers” helping others.

Look at the places your club camps. Is it appealing to tent campers? If so I would join.

Unfortunately, 8125 is already taken.

The 5 stars indicate the 8125 member was in the WBCCI (Wally Byam Caravan Club International, dba Airstream Club International-AIC) for 25 -29 years. One star for every 5 years of membership...they are red before age and UV get to them.

The Vintage Intra-Club (and the club in general) could be a great resource for your restoration project, tips, parts, the better places to find stuff, etc. It's amazing the amount of knowledge and talent that's available. To me it would be worth the fee.

Join now. The frantic call for HELP will often be answered by another member who will show up in your driveway! With a tool you need like a power rivet gun or a bunch of kleckos, or a floor jack, or just save you from going suicidal because the shell doesn't fit on the new floor you measured 15 times before cutting.. (light frame sags and has to be leveled).
Of course learning how to spell "mono-cock" and pronounce it so that it doesn't sound line THAT is a valuable thing too.

Is there an extra fee for that?

Spacing and ghosts are always a problem when doing this. I'd suggest 8128 to replace 8125 -- except that 8128 is also taken. Replacing 8 with a 5 will limit the ghosting, but not completely so. And 5125 is currently available.

It is a social club of experienced Airstreamers. It is up to you if you can make it worthwhile or not. Our club has events that are not camping and has camping rallies too.

Yes, to be a member of the Vintage IntraClub it is an additional $20 fee to your WBCCI (ACI) Membership.

Congrats Wagvan!
I do not remember joining, owned my rig 20+ years.
You would not believe how much support available as a fellow Airstreamer.
But really it is up to you. What do you want?
Your rig, your time, your time, make it yours.
